Dr. Shapiro says, "propecia does not cause a shed"

Dr. Shapio conceded that minoxidil usually initiates a shed. But this is not the case, quot'he, with finasteride. finasteride conspiracy, perhaps, or just scientific hubris? Considering the extent to which he is involved, directly, with patients, I don't imagine that he'd say this about finasteride if it didn't...

Dr. Shapiro says, "propecia does not cause a shed"

This is what he told me yesterday. So I took his advice and filled the prescription he gave me for Propecia. I haven't been able to take my first pill yet, as I'm afraid that it will accelerate frontal loss. I'm a NW1.5, with a diffuse pattern. My hairline is intact, expect on my right...

    Hair thinning all over?

with respect, "As far as male pattern baldness, it is possible you are destined to be a NW7 and it is happening in a diffused pattern rather then a slow recession. In which case all your hair except a small band around your ears and neck will be bald. " Possible, though highly unlikely. My father has hair...

    Hair thinning all over?

My temples have receded a bit (Norwood 1.5-1.75 on the right; Norwood 1.25 on the left), and my front is thinning (this, I know, is male pattern baldness). But why is the hair all over my head losing its pigment, even at the back of my head near the neck and on the sides? My hair, all over, has gone from med-brown to...

    .25 propecia?

Thanks for the response, Science-Jay. Could you please explain, in further detail, your own experience with the micro dose of finasteride (i.e., sides, shedding, efficacy, etc.). Thanks, C.

    .25 propecia?

Three or four reasons for micro-dosing: 1). I really can't afford a big shed or gyno. 2). I want to save some ammo for later, in case my hairloss gets worse. 3). Expense (I'll use Propecia). 4). According to the Merck studies, micro doses of finasteride are almost as effective as full doses.

bump... Any opinions about mico-doses of finasteride?

    .25 propecia?

Any thoughts? My hairloss is not advanced at 31; however, it's thinning in a diffuse pattern (hairline mostly intact, but with temple recession of about 1.5 Norwood on the right, and 1.1 on the left). I need my hair, and can't afford a shed (I'm in entertainment). Plus, I want to save the big...

    shiny, oily scalp

Thanks for the responses. Basketballhead: Thanks for the concealer tip, which is much appreciated. Blue: I'm a bit worried about some of the anecdotal evidence I've been gathering about severe spironolactone sheds. What was your experience? Thanks.

    shiny, oily scalp

Thanks for the responses, chaps. Does spironolactone cause a shed? And are there any adverse health risks/sides?

Someone, anyone? Also, does anyone have opinions about spironolactone and its effectiveness for diffuse thinners?

    shiny, oily scalp

Hi, Any antidotes for shiny scalp? Will Nizoral work for this? I wash my hair every day, but it doesn't seem to help. Do anti-androgens actually cause oily scalp, or does the condition result from there being less hair to absorb a normal amount of sebum? Is the excess oil a cause of male pattern baldness...
