I think the main point that the OP is making is: wanting to give the impression to others that something doesn't bother you, is actually what tells them that it *does* bother you. It's the classic psychological paradox.

I absolutely agree! It is all about ticking a box. The "not balding" box. As much of a basket case as I am to look at, I am living proof of this as I approach 40.
