Masturbation and shedding

"Testosterone levels decline as we get older and levels of other sex hormones, including prolactin, increase. Prolactin steps up the production of 5-alpha-dihydrotestosterone, a very potent hormone that stimulates the growth of your prostate gland. With age, a man's ability to break down DHT is greatly reduced.

Due to the fact that prolactin levels are increased by stress and beer consumption, you should try and take measures to help you relax (yoga can be particularly beneficial in lowering stress levels), and avoid having more than an occasional glass of beer."

Testosterone and DHT aren't directly connected. A rise in Testosterone doesn't exactly mean a rise in DHT and vice versa.

Does anyone else notice that if they don't masturbate for a while shedding seems to lessen? I don't know if this is the case with everyone but my shedding has virtually stopped since I stopped masturbating. I used to masturbate every day and I would shed in terrible amounts. I would get 5 or 6 hairs on my hand every time I ran my fingers through my hair in the shower and usually 2 or 3 if my hair was dry. Since I've stopped I've been able to tug on my hair (usually the hairline and vertex) without getting any hairs out. Some days it seems like I don't shed at all.
I've heard that there is no relation between the two, but I've been witnessing some pretty undeniable results recently. I was just wondering if anyone else noticed anything like this.

I stopped masturbating 2 weeks ago and I realized that my hair roots are getting stronger. My hair used to shed every time I touch my hair, in the shower, and when I got up I can see there are lots of hair on the pillow. Now I do believe that if you stopped masturbating your hair could stop shedding.

I just hope if I could regrow my hair back.

I'm really happy I realized this so early. I figure I will still lose a lot of hair, but hopefully this will let me keep it a little longer. I've been avoiding masturbating and ejaculating for a while now and the results are still strong. At most I notice myself shedding 2 or 3 hairs a day now, in contrast to my usual 100+.

I'm absolutely convinced there is a link between too much sex and hair loss.

1. I've actually noticed most male pornstars are losing their hair even the younger ones. Even the black guys which is rare to see a balding 30 something black man.

2. When I masturbate my scalp always starts to itch. This will last for 1 or 2 days. Scalp inflammation has been linked to hormone imbalances.

I think the main difference between masturbating and having sex with your gf/wife is the time difference. Many guys will masturbate for an hour or more if they have the time. Sex with your girlfriend/wife is maybe 15-30 minutes depending on foreplay. I don't think it's healthy to keep your testosterone levels so high for so long Not only that but I think the excitement level is higher too because the women are super hot and are total freaks who do things you only wish your gf/wife would do.

There are a lot of Taoist beliefs to support this as well. Ejaculating is taxing on a man's body and I don't think the human body was designed with the era of internet p**rn in mind.

I also only masturbate when I'm bored. If I'm busy I don't have the slightest desire to do it. I notice I feel much stronger and awake when I don't do it too. I remember freshmen year of college I'd sleep with my gf at least twice a day and I had no energy to do anything and my grades showed it. When we cut back on it I felt much better and grades went right up.

I usually find it quite irritating when people try and claim there are links between masturbation, and acne or hair loss. I have a friend who claims he stopped jacking off for 2 weeks and his skin cleared right up, then he started again and broke out in spots. The problem is, I have both acne (clearing up now thanks to anti-biotics) and male pattern baldness, and when one of my friends tells me I've got to stop jacking off (the implication being what I'm experiencing is my fault), I want to knock the f***er out!!

However, I really don't know if there could be a link. The most reasonable point of view seems to be that genetics determine whether you go bald or not, and lifestyle may affect the rate at which you go bald.

It's been 36 days without wanking for me, but i still get the scalp itchiness. :(
Do you guys still get the itch? (assuming you had it in the first place)

I wonder if it's not working for me. :dunno:

There are guys who claim to have a regrowth after 3 months of abstinence, now i don't know if it's true but i decided to give it a shot.

Also, im at day 37 and i have yet to have a nocturnal emission. If im going to have one or even less per month i don't think it will be enough to harm my hair.

That is just the abstract, the full article can be accessed from the links but might not be available depending on your subscriptions. There is at least a control mentioned in the abstract. The one thing, though, is that the study is a little bit old (1976).

Also, no one is saying you need to stay abstinent, just to avoid over masturbating, and that might help.

I think I've had some mild regrowth as well.

And as someone else said, it's not about never masturbating or having sex ever again. It's just about not over doing it. It's not something that's very hard to get used to either. At first it's a little difficult to fight the urge, but it gets easier the longer you go without it. It gets even easier once you notice the results. :woot:

For me it's more about confidence. I've always loved my hair. It was always thick and dark with just a little bit of a messy wave. Everyone used to tell me I had perfect hair, and that made me feel pretty good about myself. I have a beautiful girlfriend who would stand by me through anything. She fully expects me to go completely bald, which is fine with her, she says it would be pretty cute. I know that I will have an attractive, sweet, supporting partner no matter what happens to my hair, keeping it is purely for me and how I feel about myself.

Long time lurker, first time poster here.

I am a chronic addicted masturbator and i have been all my life. But in the last three years or so my masturbation habbits have got out of hand. Just before this time, I finally found love and then had my heart smashed by the most beautiful girl ever. In these last three years, I would spend upto 3 hours most nights masturbating and on some nights go for marathon 6 hour sessions. Over the last month i've decided to ween myself off my habbit as i am convinced that staying in prolonged excessive periods of sexual arousal has led to my hairloss being accelerrated, Big Time!. My hairloss has definitely been accelerated these last three years, and in particualr these last three or four months were my habbit really did get out of hand.

Lurking through this forum i have also noticed a certain sensitivity amongst certain individuals regarding this subject and i don't understand why. These individuals claim that there is no proof, but just because something hasn't been proven doesn't mean its not true.

Science is rarely 100% accurate. After all tests are completed, observations are made and then you have to make a generalisation.

I will get slaughtered for this part, but i believe there are only a limited number of personality types. The personality types that are likely to frequent this forum are more than likely to be addicted to internet p**rn just like me and therefore be excessive masturbators just like me. And guess what? We are all going bald.

Another observation is the p**rn stars. The majority of male p**rn stars go bald or are seriously thinning. I know what i'm talking about because i watch so much of it.

Ever noticed the number of lonely banker types that are bald?

Now im not saying all wankers are bald and all bald men are wankers but to a certain extent these observations can count as scientific research....Right?

People like finfighter are probably single hence they have so much time on there hands to live in these forums and carry out the research they do. By that rationale they are also more than likely to be chronic masturbators. Masturbation is the crying out of a lonely soul.

I live my life for the truth and i feel no shame for who i am and what i am capable of as a human being. I also base my philosophies upon generalisations which i develop and tweak as time progresses. At this moment in time, im convinced that masturbation has accelerated if not triggered my genetically predetermined succeptability to male pattern baldness.

Sometimes i dont trust this site and i think the forum is sponsored by certain companies that sell hairloss products. Im not convinced of this, but i wonder why things like scalp excersises are slammed in the same way as the masturbation topic by the so called know it all's. Surely blood flow and circulation of nutrients has something to do with hairloss. Everybody knows that stress causes hair to minturise. Why is it so ridiculous to assume that scalp excersises wont help in any way?

I dont fully mean this, but perhaps these sponsored companies dont want us to stop masturbating and start doing scalp excersises so that we dont all grow our hair back.LOL

But what difference would there be between being a lonely wanker, or a happily married dude that has sex 5 times a day? It's the same process and conclusion. physically speaking

Even if sex/masturbation leaded to baldness it's one of life's biggest enjoyments. I'd rather be bald and enjoy life than have a full head of a hair and be miserable not being able to enjoy beauties of life.

When my girlfriend lived with me for a month and we had sex nearly 3-4 times towards the end is when I started to notice shedding in the shower. After getting nervous about the shedding I checked my hair and that is when I noticed my mature hairline. I'm just sharing my experience, I don't believe there is any truth in it. I say this because before that I used to masturbate quite often and had alot of sex before that and didn't notice any shedding then(we really stepped it up that month though). However I turned 21 when my girlfriend came over that time and that is a better explanation. I really wish there was a official study done on the matter because it is easy to come to conclusions based on our own experiences. I don't watch p**rn but are there seriously alot of balding guys in it? Couldn't just be a coincidence?

Using a sample of 33 healthy young men, 6 blood samples were obtained in the course of 2 weeks, and testosterone, dihydrotestosterone, and estradiol levels determined. The amount of free testosterone in the saliva was also ascertained for 23 of the subjects. All participants kept a daily record of their sexual activity during the investigational period. An interindividual comparison revealed a significant positive correlation between serum testosterone levels and the frequency of orgasms as well as a significant negative correlation between estradiol concentrations and the frequency of sexual activity without orgasm. The comparison of hormone levels to sexual behavior, prior to and after the individual sampling, reveals significant positive correlations between the serum testosterone and the extent of the preceding sexual stimulation, and between the total testosterone and the free testosterone on the one hand and both the preceding and subsequent frequency of orgasms on the other. The estradiol levels showed a significant negative correlation with both the preceding and the subseqent frequencies of sexual activity without orgasm.

Ugh..after reading this stuff I'm getting worried. I will be living with my girlfriend for a month in january and 3 whole months soon after that. Am I not going to have sex with her because of stuff I read online? That could mess up our relationship. This sucks..lol
