View Full Version : A way to enhance the absorption & penetration of MINOXIDIL
January 17th, 2009, 08:59 AM
I am on xandrox for 4,5 weeks now and propecia for 11 months now. I found out something that I wanted to share it with you, after surfing the web for an hour. My plan is to find something that will help the topicals such as minoxidil to penetrate better the scalp skin and reach and affect better the hair follicles. I am wondering if dermaroller could help the absorption of minoxidil. I am sure that alone it can't do much, but I am thinking if it enhances the topical absorption of drugs(such as minoxidil) into hair follicles. I didn't expect something from dermaroller until I read this post ( http://www.hairlosshelp.com/FORUMS/mess ... ermaroller (http://www.hairlosshelp.com/FORUMS/messageview.cfm?catid=10&threadid=60025&highlight_key=y&keyword1=dermaroller) ) on hairlosshelp with a guy that had great results using a similar way, needling the scalp to open the pores and enhancing the absorption of minoxidil.
I am planning to use it once a day(at night) and after that, applying xandrox. So dermaroller will help minoxidil(xandrox) to get down easier below the scalp skin, affecting better the hair follicles.
Has anyone tried it and strengthen the absorption and results of minoxidil ?
Do you think dermaroller can have a big effect on minoxidil's absorption(needling the scalp pores) ?

I don't see why not, but you will have to experiment. Try using it on a wet head as well, or adding retin a to your minox, these will all help increase absorption, just be wary of side effects such as a rapidly beating heart, don't want you popping your clogs well before your time.

Very good reply. I really care first for my hair and then for my health(and problems that may cause the increased absorption of minoxidil). I really want to make everything that I can for them. One thing that I wanted to make it clear: You recommended me to use it on a wet head. So using the dermaroller on a wet head than on a dry head will increase the absorption of minoxidil, affecting better and easier the hair follicles
But using dermaroller on a wet head is safe ?(I mean it won't harm the hair follicles ?)
Because I am already doing Scalp exercises, using dermaroller after doing scalp exercises and before applying xandrox, will this combination harm my hair follicles ?

I just meant applying minox on a wet head will increase absorption, though you could try it with the derma roller, though i don't know to much about the roller. I apply my minox on a hydrated scalp a few times a week, i've not had any problems, and it does dry a lot quicker. I'm looking in to adding some retin a to my minox too.
I don't see how it could hurt your follicles, but it could make you dizzy etc... trail and error

Thanks again Petcsky,
I will try to buy it this week and add to my regimen to see if it works, because I have the bad thought that the scalp pores over time are closing, and they don't let minoxidil to penetrate easy through the skin.
Petchsky how much retin-a are you planning to apply on the scalp ? because applying it on the whole scalp you will need much cream each day. Are you planning to apply it once a day before minoxidil ?
January 17th, 2009, 01:52 PM
I'm not sure as yet whether to add it to my minox or apply a few minutes before my minox application, i also use copper peptides mixed with my minox, and i'm also thinking of adding some lavender and rosemary essential oil to it, but don't to go overboard.
If you look on minoxidil.com Dr Lee's minox has it mixed with retin a, so you could buy that or look to see how much he used to mix it with. :)

Very good idea!..... Retin-a is really an other thing that will help with better absorption and penetration of minoxidil. I am sure you can use it at night one hour before having bath, so you can then wash your hair, due to the greasiness that retin-a leaves your hair. This week I will think seriously between retin-a and dermaroller and take the best decision and thing to add to my regimen. Best of lack to you dude!....

If you got to needle your scalp, or turn it red, to absorb more greasy topicals, then... then... don't make fun of me if I get a hair piece because you are just as crazy.
January 21st, 2009, 01:31 AM
You are right,
I made a search on this forum and I found that dermaroller increases the absortion, but the results that lots of guys achieved after they used it in combination with rogaine weren't so promising or they were decent so after lots of replies they stopped talking about it. The companies that are selling it, are advising you to use it in combination with minoxidil so the results that you achieve are minoxidil's results. Last Sunday I was sure that this week I was going to buy it but after the search and study I made on it, I decided that I will not make the move to it. It's really a big scam....

wasn't the retin-A useful for better absorbtion of minox? Many people used it (of course slowly like once a week, then twice a week)
January 28th, 2009, 05:29 AM
That was what I was thinking to add to my regimen, but many members here say that its side effects especially on the skin outweigh its benefits. I think that it is useful if you use it in combination with lower minoxidil, like 2%, not 5%.
Of course it's worth a try.... who knows.... :)
I may try it but not now.....

What about emu oil?
February 5th, 2009, 10:29 AM
Does emu oil help with minoxidil absorption?
I am sure the only thing that does is to help the healthiness of scalp.
February 6th, 2009, 10:14 PM
Emu oil is the #1 thing to use to increase absorbtion. Due to its cellular makeup, it easily penetrates the skin and carries anything present with it. So...
The best way to approach it is to 1st, shower and shampoo with hot to warm water, then after towel drying, apply the Minox. Wait a minute or two, then apply Emu oil and comb / brush.

So is there any shampoo that contains aloe vera? to rotate with nizoral
I already use Neutrogena's T-sal (sal -salicylic acid is one of the ingredients) for the first wash, then Nizoral. Salicylic acid is an exfoliator, enhancing the absorption of any topical agent.
February 7th, 2009, 12:26 PM
Aloe vera is in quite a few shampoos, normally listed as Aloe barbadensis.
Jason's products due aloe vera only oils, gels, shampoos etc
February 7th, 2009, 02:28 PM
Thanks guys for the info,
I will make my homework on it, because I am already using T/Sal.
February 9th, 2009, 12:36 AM
neis, let me tell you something about the dermaroller
i've used 5% generic minoxidil for 2.5 with no result on temples.
last mounth i've got myself a roller from ebay with 0.25mm long needles (very short barly i feel something)
after mounth of daily use i have seen hair thicking on temples and new vellus hair on areas thar were bare for 8 years
i waiting now for the 1mm to arrive, it's to soon to report but i have a good feeling about this
i wouldn't call it a scam before i try it
February 9th, 2009, 07:26 AM
I've heard the derma roller works for improving the appearance of scars, may experiment with it next.
February 9th, 2009, 08:52 AM
I'm hesitant to poke holes in my scalp.
February 9th, 2009, 10:01 AM
yeah, I agree with the quote that ''You can't talk about something if you haven't used it''
I use retin-a on the temples and t/gel shampoo(salicylic acid) to enhance the absorption of the topicals that I use. I was seriously thinking to add dermaroller to my regimen but after some research I made on it I decided that it would be a waste of money.
the thickness that you experienced in the temples isn't due to minoxidil? Because using minoxidil for 2,5 months it's a short period to evaluate if it works for you or not. Adding dermaroller in your regimen while being 2,5 months on minoxidil, the results that you achieved now may be minoxidil results and not dermaroller results. The companies that sell it, recommend you to use it in combination with minoxidil. I think that this looks very suspicious...It can only help the skin and scars but not the hair.
February 9th, 2009, 11:10 AM
LOL , no mate not 2.5 months it's a 2.5 years
and i also use 0.25% retin-a 5 to 10 minutes before minox application
anyway i've took a photo from day one and i'm waiting to the 3 months mark to take anthoer one which help me to decide how good the roller is
oh yeah and i almost forgot that i used emu oil ... to much greasy and no improvment :thumbdown2:
i've tried the minomuck also with no luck... you name it i tried it. the roller also renew skin cells this help with regrowth also
February 9th, 2009, 11:43 AM
thanks for the info and sorry for the misunderstanding
So your current regimen is minoxidil 5%, retin-a 0.25% before minox application and dermaroller?
It would be a great idea to post your before and after photo. I want to be the looser of this discussion for dermaroller effectiveness which I underestimated. I hope so
I would appreciate it, if you could post some pics.
February 9th, 2009, 01:04 PM
as i said it's to early to report but why not
tell me if you see any diffrence ( * the after photos took today after a haircut / 1 month + 10 days into dermaroller treatment + minoxidil *)
before - right side with flash http://i39.tinypic.com/auj3d.jpg
before - left side with flash
after 1 month - right side with flash
after 1 month - left side with flash
after 1 month - combed back no flash
February 9th, 2009, 01:07 PM
open the link in new window to see the pictures better
February 9th, 2009, 02:29 PM
Thanks dude for the photos,
They are too close to see clearly the difference, but I can see a thickness around the temples. Congratulations man. Do you thing that this difference is only due to dermaroller, or there is something else that helped?
February 9th, 2009, 10:55 PM
same regimen the only thing that changed is the roller
watch the pictures from here :
February 10th, 2009, 12:33 PM
Damn, that's undeniably good growth, especially as you've been on minox for 2.5 years! Way to go :)
February 10th, 2009, 01:13 PM
thanks mate, after 2.5 years you usualy can't expect more growth...
but with the dermaroller i have what to except
February 10th, 2009, 01:39 PM
Thanks avi, nice improvement
If everything that I use fail, I will replace scalp exercises with dermaroller to help the circulation of the blood that has an impact on regrowth. Where do you buy your dermaroller from?
February 10th, 2009, 01:43 PM
1. how many times a week do u use it?
2. how many minutes each time?
I want to have an idea If I will use it in the future
February 10th, 2009, 01:52 PM
i bought it from ebay
and i use it 5-6 times a week only before night time application
i rolling the roller 2-3 minutes on each temple until it's becomes red and aplly minoxidil right after
February 10th, 2009, 02:41 PM
Do u buy it from usa or australia?
Because in a previous topic, the guys were using a dermaroller made in australia. I don't remember exactly the name. It was nolvadex....I think sooo
February 11th, 2009, 02:58 AM
just type 'dermaroller' you will be surprised with all the matches
February 11th, 2009, 06:48 AM
so you buy whatever dermaroller you find? despite if it s for scars or not
February 11th, 2009, 07:04 AM
0.5 or 1mm needles length is best for hair loss
February 11th, 2009, 10:01 AM
Tnx avi for the info :bravo:
February 12th, 2009, 12:15 AM
no problem mate

I'm going to give this a go.
There's lots of dermarollers on ebay from $10:
http://cgi.ebay.com/hair-loss-BALDNESS- ... dZViewItem (http://cgi.ebay.com/hair-loss-BALDNESS-0-5-mm-Derma-roller-skin-dermaroller_W0QQitemZ230325077032QQihZ013QQcategor yZ33164QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)
http://cgi.ebay.com/Dermaroller-0-5mm-f ... dZViewItem (http://cgi.ebay.com/Dermaroller-0-5mm-for-Home-Use-Wrinkles-Scars-Age-Spots_W0QQitemZ230318615753QQihZ013QQcategoryZ7499 4QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)
I presume the cheaper one will do the job just as well as the $60 one?
February 14th, 2009, 12:18 PM
1. Can dermaroller with 1mm needles harm the hair follicles?
because today, I bought this one below, to have an experiment
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0277219507 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=270277219507)
2. Do you use dermaroller and retin-a before applying minoxidil? How many minutes do you wait between the applications?
February 25th, 2009, 03:47 AM
a small 2 months update :
i took some pictures, hair keep growing and grow stonger in the tempels area , so far so good
still haven't got the 1mm roller :dunno:
for now i'm using the 0.25mm length but it's seems that it's not sharp as it was at the begining
February 25th, 2009, 06:40 AM
Thanks dude for the update,
Very good regrowth. This is what motivated me to buy 1mm dermaroller, but I will try it in the summer because now I want to test xandrox. :punk:
Can you answer my questions of my previous post?
February 25th, 2009, 07:20 AM
1. it won't harm the hair follicles
2.i roll it on my temples and apply the minox right after
