will dying my hair cause dmg to the scalp?

im not doing a full head dye , just some highlights to cover the balding , thinning spot
and btw i'm on minoxidil now .

From what I have read in most cases it won't but in some cases it can. Dying the hair has an effect on the cuticle and they say indirectly it can have an effect on the structure of the hair shaft and cause it to regrow irregular. If you are allergic to the dye then you will have a problem like a dermatitis that can cause hair loss. The advantage to dying the hair is it will thicken up the hair shaft and your hair looks thicker but that effect only last for about a week in MY experience. However, my hair started to thin out the most when I started dying my gray hairs about 5 years ago. I don't know if it was coincidence or not. I still dye it because I absolutely don't like the fact that my gray hair grows out thinner and its harder to style and manage. I only wish I had gray hair that grew out thicker and easier to style like George Clooney.
