First their are so many men that participate in this hairloss discussion Forum then woman. I look at the same comments day after day with the woman.

2nd are their any woman wearing wigs? What does it feel like, what kind do you wear? Any trouble shooting advice.

I found this website that make wigs with human hair and they plaster your head, make a mold and make a silicone cap. Apparently you can even swim with this wig. Does anyone have one of these or know anything about it.
Thanks Teester

wearing wigs

teester

i wear a wig. at first i thought i don't need a wig. people are going to notice that it is not my hair. but then my mom and i went looking and i found two that i really liked. one is curly, i have always wanted curly since i have completely straight hair. the second one i have is carmel-dark blonde colored. i normally have dark brown hair. i started to wear the curly one and no one even noticed a difference. :) so i thought hey i can do this.

the people that i have told that i have wigs have told me that you can't tell it is a wig and say it looks like my normal hair. :D

the wigs that i have are human hair and are sewn in, they also have a cap to it that makes it look like part of it is my scalp. at first i thought they would be uncomfortable but they are not.

i am glad that i have my wig because i cannot leave my normal hair showing unless i fix it to cover my bald spots. so somedays it really makes me feel more confident about myself. it also gives me a chance to have fun and experiment with different hair.

hope this gives you hope

wigs, hair loss posters

Teester,

First off, we are trying to create more interest in this site. With time, we hope it will become the primary source for female hair loss information and support. Unfortunately, many women do not find us, or often simply lurk on the site without joining and leaving posts. Before I came to terms with my own hair loss, I trawled this site and others looking for hope. I only started posting once my doctor had suggested that I have Androgenetic Alopecia.

Secondly, I wear wigs and hairpieces from time to time. My hair is thinning yet still very full, but it is hard to style because I've had so much diffuse loss. There are several kinds of wigs to choose from if you are interested. Here are a few links to reputable sources of information regarding wigs:

http://www.geocities.com/sktb888/Wig_SupportFAQ.html

http://www.allaboutwigs.com/allaboutwigs.asp

I, like krazy-j, worried that people would know my wigs weren't my own hair. I don't particularly mind if they do, since it's obvious if I go from long frizzy hair to short curly hair to long straight hair, that it must not be mine. However, people don't actually comment one way or the other. I always wear my regular hair to work, and just purchased a small topper to cover the top front of my head and give me more styling versatility.

If you have more questions about wigs and other hair replacement, don't hesitate to ask!

Cheers,
-maya

This type of wig is normaly only suitable for persons with total hair loss or that shave their head. In my opinion they are also overpriced.

Hi, I agree, these wigs are overpriced, and I also worry about proper ventilation, etc, and the health of the scalp. I wear certain wigs, with Top Stick attached, which really does do a wonderful job of securing wigs in my pool, and havent had it displaced yet! Just be careful of the chemicals, I use Biolage Milk shine, which seems to keep them well protected...and, I only do this with we have company, haha... :freaked2:

Most any wig or hair replacement system can be worn when swimming if you take the time to make sure it is securely attached for such activity. The hair should be carefully given a long rinse of clear water after swimming, being it salt or clorinated water, shampooed and conditioned. Otherwise the chemicals and or salt can do seriouse damage to the hair. [/quote]

Wearing wigs advice for Teester

I now wear wigs permanently because the top of my head is completely bald. They are great and at any one time, I have about 10 at home. When it is hot though, they are unbearable because you sweat. Just care ofor them by washing them every three weeks or so so they keep clean.

Hey Indy, let me address a few of your concerns, in order of your post.

#1 you should be able to find a source for half that $1200.00, especialy when ordering from the internet ... or even lower, I promise you they are still making a profit. Also when ordering; ask for INDIAN Hair it's finer and closer to our hair type and should envolve no extra expense over that of Asian hair.

#2 Instead of washing the unit every week with shampoo, try rinsing it well in lukewarm water and giving it a good conditioning. Conditioning is necessary each and every washing. A protien conditioner should also be sprayed into the hair every week. There are products (normaly proffessional ones) that help with the tangles. When the tangles are really bad there is a process I call "do the dip" which we treat a replacement with. I could possibly send you the formula if you so desire.

Often the dry look is mainly the loss of color that all units suffer. Color instructions could also be sent to you or done by a salon that specialises in Hair Replacements. It's not difficult to learn on your own.

#3 Don't discard your units when they are getting thin. Any reputable Hair Replacement outfit can return your Wig to the factory for "reventing" or adding of hair... at a fraction of the cost of a new unit. The unit base or foundation must still be in good shape and the unit must be very clean, recolored and prepped beforehand.

Hope this offers some hints and help.

All Hair Replacements these days have had the cuticle removed or reduced, and can still be colored. Sorry, but she knows NOT of which she speaks.

some people place a kleenex on their head before putting on the unit to reduce the itch they experience. The mono mesh is the most popular and strongest of the popular mesh's, but some people do react adversily to it.

Can I revitalize this discussion? I am curious as to what other wig-wearers' experiences have been.

What kind of wigs do you like?
How do you care for them?
How often do you have to replace them?
etc.

Toupmaster,

I bought the $1200 wig from a local salon, not on the internet. The woman told me that because the cuticle is removed it cannot be coloured. So I try to manage the dryness with silicone based sprays.

The piece that I just ordered online cost $295. Better price however, I was told by other female wearers that I might have to replace every 2 to 3 months due to dryness. I ordered a piece that is all lace with some "thinskin" on the sides and back for attachment. Apparently this product will not be as hot or itchy - we shall see!

Re your comments:What about Euro Hair? My first wig had this type of hair and it was very soft.

Can you recommend specific products that help with the tangling and the protien spray you mentioned?

Can you recommend best washing instructions, I am blowing it out with fairly warm air, cannot let it air dry it gets fuzzy and I hate using rollers, takes too long and ends up looking funny sometimes.

I will not discard the old units, I'm hoping I can keep a few around for sporting activities so that I don't have to sweat up my everyday piece.

I would love the dip formula - please email me at Heaven _ Tree @ Hotmail .com, minus the spaces.

Thanks again.

I've sent you the formula sheets for doing the de-tangling dip and instructions on coloring the units you have.
Coloring them will remove 90% of the dry look.

The salon that said the unit could not be colored is full of Poo Poo and knows not of what they speak. My guess is they have little experience other than making a big profit on the Sale.

Euro hair is great, but my feelings are it isn't worth the increased price. Let me know when you get the instructions sheets and if they are of help.
