Stopping Frontal Loss

Hey All,

In recent weeks it seems that the worst part of my loss is right up in the front. The agressive loss is surmounting to much less than 50% of my original hair density from 6 months ago. The hairs that fall out from this area are extrememly unhealthy, loosing their entire diameter over the course of 2 inches. I am asking beyond Minoxidil, which seems to do absolutely NOTHING for except help me "shed", what people have experienced as a good topical for frontal preservation? I'm not expecting much from Propecia in the front. I am wondering if I should add spironolactone now, or something else??

Thanks for the help!

I don't know, bombscience, but according to your sig your started minoxidil less than two months ago and finasteride less than a month ago. If true, you might be still in a shedding phase from one or both. I have been on finasteride for a long time but I just started minoxidil about 3 1/2 months ago, and my shed from minoxidil only started to slow after two months. It is still continuing to slow and I am shedding very little but it probably isn't quite at 0 yet, maybe another month and it will be at zero at this rate.

Also, even though it is a little early for me to be sure *cough*, I seem to be getting the best frontal regrowth I ever have, even though I used 5% minoxidil + finasteride a few years ago I didn't see a lot of results from the minoxidil.

I am now using 5% Xandrox 2x per day. You might want to consider using your minoxidil 2x per day if your shedding doesn't slow over the next few months, again it might be a little early. I am also using 12% Xandrox 2 x per day and I think that is making the difference.

If you don't like to use minoxidil in the morning because of the residue, I whip it on and rub it in real fast in like 1 minute when I wake up before my eyes are even open. Then I screw around and eat breakfast, shower within about an hour. That way I don't have that crap on my forhead all day.

Right on Yeddie, I guess my concern is that after 2 months of minoxidil applications I'm seeing these hairs that have lost all thickness in about the time I have started applying the drug.

I'm just trying to combat the problem up front, slow it down or stop it, instead of tryin to regrow it all, which seems hopeless.. so any addition to the cocktail that will help at this point would be something i need to start...

The other 1/2 of this story is my shed seems to be slowing everywhere else except the front.

I'm sorry, that website has a spelling mistake in the first paragraph which is usually a warning sign.

Who cares about a spelling mistake, the HairLossTalk.com living legend hall-of-famer Oxhide uses NG and has had remarkable results.

Couldn't have had figured that one ! It's all good. I'm seriously thinking of adding NG to my regimen, heard great things about it. I find minoxidil too messy and it irritates my scalp big time. You only have to apply NG once a day, they even sugget to apply it right before going to sleep.

Current regimen:

Propecia 1mg
nizoral 3x/week
l-arginine 3g/day capsules
mult-vit+antioxidants

I think adding a topical like NG would make my regimen complete

Ok young, i'm going to read up on it, but I'm not sure about that one treatment you pointed out.

Anyone else have any answers?

Bombscience, this is probably an old issue I missed, but did you take "Before" pictures? You are going to need them in a month or two. I was just pining over my shed (even though I AM getting regrowth) and I looked at my before pictures from 3 months ago. I think I need to get a haircut and take some more pix because I think I am thicker now even though I "see" thinner when I look in the mirror. Early results, of course...

I have before pictures... and "after 1 month" pictures. I'm going to bump the thread at the 3 month mark. I figured anything between 1month & 3 is too soon.

I am probably a bit *calmer* than i should be with everything that's happened in the last 6 months...

Sounds like a good plan. 3 months would probably be a good time to do a quick check.

Stay with your current regimen at least six months. While it is frustrating and disheartening, shedding is a good sign. Add spironolactone if you really feel you need to add something. Biotin is a good vitamin to add as well. You were taking anti-depressants, right?

Frontal regrowth is difficult. It took over 10 months for me before I saw any difference, and then suddenly, it hit me. I woke up one day and said, "My hairline is sitting a little different..." Sure enough, those lovely layers I used to have are back in full force. I couldn't be happier.
