Rogaine Foam
Does anyone on this site use it? Does it work? Do they sell it in Canada? Would you recommend it on it's own? Is it worth a trial? Any stories or information would be greatly appreciated. My hair is thinning in the middle I already have temple recession ("V" formation) and I fear that if I do not try something within the next 6-12 months I may become a bowling ball head and I'll only be 30 years of age when it happens.

If I had known this was coming I would have got married when I was 15. :mrgreen:

I've been using it for 1.5 years and I love it. Check out the "Success Stories" forum and you'll find quite a few pics of posters that have grown a considerable amount of hair with it. Also expect a bunch of people telling you it doesn't work (even though they've never used it and really shouldn't have an opinion)....but there is pictorial proof right on this website that shows otherwise. They will point out that liquid minoxidil grew more hair in some studies than the foam, but these were not comparison studies and no one really knows what the content of the liquid solution in these studies was---meaning was it the same 50% PPG, 30% alcohol and 20% water that is sold commercially or was it a different ratio of ingredients.

Anyway, do a lot of browsing on this site and come to your own conclusions.

Do you have to get checked out by a doctor first before you start usage to clear you of certain possibility of disease or things like high blood pressure or high cholesterol or stress levels stuff like that?

If you're a healthy guy I wouldn't think there would be a problem using minoxidil, but if you have any blood pressure or cardiac issues, you may want to consult your doctor before starting treatment.

Post some picture if you have any. If you're thinning in the "usual" pattern it's probably regular male pattern baldness and you may respond well to the usual treatments. If it's really a concern you should probably ask your doctor, although I've never heard of high blood pressure causing hair loss.

Well, I've been using minoxidil since 2002, so it really wasn't an issue of it working for me----it already had for a while, just in a different form. I added finasteride in early 2006 and switched to the foam in late 2006/early 2007 and am still seeing subtle improvements every few months.

The only reason you are seeing improvements is due to the Finasteride, not the foam, open you eyes. Drop the Finasteride and you hair will go straight down hill. :firing:

Umm.... well DUH!!! I totally expect my hair to go to sh*t if I drop finasteride. Liquid ain't gonna keep your hair either if you drop finasteride....I think everyone knows that, but minoxidil is reponsible for the regrowth along with finasteride.

No. Minoxidil can help thicken hairs as well as keep it in the growth phase longer. You will however, get better results if you use finasteride along with minoxidil because finasteride will create a healthier (lowered DHT) environment in your scalp which will help any growth stilmulants work better.

Finasteride? It probably won't do anything to your nuts. Just go to your doctor and get a prescription for Propecia or Proscar, take it every day, and be sure not to come to any hair loss forums otherwise it will make you paranoid that you are having side effects.

In fact, my advice to you would be to gather all the information you can tonight and not look back at this forum and just do it.

Like beaner said, finasteride and minoxidil work synergistically (each enhancing each others' effect to produce much better results).

I would recommend starting off with finasteride only (and nizoral shampoo applied twice per week). Then after around 6-8 months add minoxidil. That way you will get a feeling of how you respond to finasteride. This is what I did and it literally has saved my hair. Also, don't get caught up with checking for results every day/hour.

I'm doing the Rogaine for now. Can't really afford to many products, If I see some results with the Rogaine, I will continue it and then attempt other enhancement such as you suggest.
