Hi, Ive only just been using Regaine 5% for 3 weeks now... I want to make sure Im getting it right..

This is what Im doing....

Im washing my hair about 6pm when I get home from work, to get all the gunk out of my hair.... Gel, Mousse spray etc... Im then applying Regaine about an hour later to a clean dry scalp and massaging it in for about 2 minutes...

The next morning (12 hours later) Im applying it again in the same way... And then Im washing my hair an hour later and applying all my products ( to make my hair look thicker)

Ive found that if I dont wash out all the Gel and Spray etc... then when I come to apply Regaine my scalp sort of goes a bit slimey with all the products sliming together....

Am i doing it right??

That sounds fine. You don't really have to massage/rub it in if you don't want to, but it don't hurt either. Most of the minoxidil should be absorbed within that 1 hour before your morning shower, but a bit more time on the scalp would likely increase the amount absorbed.

Dont forget to stand on your head for ten minutes before minoxidil applications. The resulting bloodflow to the scalp opens capilaries, increasing minoxidil absorbtion and effectivness by 200%

Its not in the Rogaine instructions, but all of us here at HairLossTalk.com do this.. at least those of us who are seeing big regrowth.

Your morning application is most likely doing you no good since your only leaving it in for an hour. The instructions say to leave it in for at least four hours before washing your hair.

Flux is right. But I prefer the headshaking method which has proven to increase minoxidil absobtion and effectivness by more than 300%. :yeah:
This method is also good against facial hairs and makes you more intelligent by increasing bloodflow in the outer areas of the brain.

oh god

God.. If its going to need 4 hours to soak into the scalp then that means ive got to rub the bloody stuff in at 4a.m... Its ridiculous... what does everyone else do...?? Im not getting up at 4am just to rub that into my head....

Wow, thats brilliant, Bismark! You must have gotten that idea from all the wisdom you gained from the increased bloodflow! I'm not exactly sure how that timeline works, but I'm not benifiting from increased brain power.

David, Put it on AFTER you wash and style your hair. Just be careful about it, nix the rubbing it in, as it does make the hair appear greasy, I know. This I believe is what most of us do. (really).

Or you could just do 1x apps at night and leave it at that.

re

well i dont really want to apply the regaine after ive styled my hair because it will spoil my style, and it will accentuate my thin bit on top.. it takes a lot of teasing and crimping about to hide that thin patch, and i dont want to ruin it by putting on the regaine after ive been to all that trouble...

Apply it before you use your styling products. If you feel that regualr minoxidil is too greasy get some of Dr. Lees plain minoxidil. It's not greasy and dries in 1/3 the time of regular minoxidil.

I've got the real brain power from taking Finasteride. Before that my erections were that great that I was able to plow a frozen field with my penis. No more erections with finasteride.
No erections => less blood in the penis => more blood remains for the brain => increased brain power.

So finasteride made me intelligent enough to develop the headshaking method. This happened accidently while I was baking in my car for about 2 weeks.

David, we all suffer trying to get that morning minoxidil application on. Correct me if I am wrong, but I think I remember you saying that you apply your regaine with a sprayer. If so, I suggest getting rid of it, and finding a dropper you can use instead.

What I, and a few others here do, is to shower first, then style the hair, then let the styling products dry a bit while we have a cup of coffee, watch the news, or whatever. Then, fill the dropper with minoxidil and wipe the sides of the dropper so that it is dry. Using the dropper, I very carefully poke the dropper head through my styled hair until it hits scalp, and let a little droplet of minoxidil go. I repeat this process, dotting areas of my affected area until the entire 1ml is applied.

99% of the time I can get the minoxidil to the scalp, and have very little to nil in the hair using this method. The thing I like about it is that I don't have to wait at home for it to dry. Because the dropper gets the minoxidil past my styled hair and onto the scalp, the still-wet minoxidil is obscured from view by the dry and styled hair above it.

The Dr Lees suggestion is a good one as well. I keep some Dr Lees on hand for those mornings when I really don't have time to be patient nor careful. It dries VERY quickly, and is ideal for those mornings when you really don't want to take the chance of any undried and glistening minoxidil being seen by the public... like on those days when you have a meeting right upon arrival at work. Some here use it every day in the mornings, the slightly higher cost is well worth the ease of application for some.

If it were up to me, shelling out an extra $7 a month would be well worth not having to get up early to do some exotic minoxidil application ritual. You might want to give it a shot.

Hope this helps. Cheers.

I shower, then let it dry, then apply the minoxidil and then spike it up. It seems wierd but the minoxidil isn't that bad and usually dries by the time I get to work/wherever.

I guess I do that because I usually let my hair dry anyway and then style it before using minix because it seemed stronger and styled easier (and it's better as more hair is pulled out when wet so dry is good). It adds a bit of extra time but there we are I can cope with that.

When I say spiked i mean the faux-hawk thing that people have now - very good for diffuse thinners IMO. And minoxidil seems to help it a bit.

I know some will disagree and it take balls though I've buzzed my hair down to a 3. With short hair apllying minoxidil is a lot eaasier as well you can't tell I've apllied it by the time I leave for work which is 10 minutes later. I'm a diffuser which sucks with these patches of almost baldness, hope this sh*t along with the finasteride works.

re

Hi The Gardner.. thanks for that..

the only problem with your method is that your are not massaging the minoxidil into the scalp.. you are just putting it on the scalp and hoping it gets absorbed into the skin.. I am (by means of the pumping arm) pumping 6 squirts onto the thin area, and then massaging it gently in for about 3 minutes into the effected area... Wouldnt that 'hit the spot' so as to speak..... a bit better????

That's a good question, David... to massage the minoxidil in or not to massage the minoxidil in?

I have heard anecdotally that massaging the minoxidil in results in about half of the applied minoxidil being absorbed not by your scalp, but by your fingers. I have no statistics I can cite, nor any research, but I can say that many here prefer not to massage it in and have had good results.

One thing I can cite is that you need not cover your entire affected area with the liquid. Once absorbed into the scalp, the minoxidil does spread around a bit under the skin, this according to Dr Lee.

Perhaps you could massage in at night, and just dot the scalp during the morning application? I mean, I never massage it in and I'm getting nice regrowth. If you skip the massage once a day for the morning application at least, I would think it is well worth the trade off of having to get up hours in advance of your morning affairs just to be able to massage in and still have time to let it dry?

Just my two cents, so to speak. But, I don't think there is a consensus that rubbing the minoxidil in is required to make it work.

Cheers,

Gardener
