Receding hairline and thinning, should go right to Duta?

My hair is already shedding like crazy and I have a bad receding hairline. I've read so much on dutasteride and finasteride and it seems like there's a whole lot less people taking Dutasteride than there is taking Propecia, but it seems like everyone taking Duta is having a positive effect whereas almost everyone taking Propecia seems to be having a negative effect. Granted I know that because of the lower number of users there will be a lower number of bad experiences with it. I wanna start something to block the DHT in me but I don't wanna have to wait a year to see if Propecia works and to have my hair look even worse after that year if it doesn't work. What should I do? What's the con of using Duta?

A lot of people are having great success on propecia, but because there hair is doing well they dont come on line as much. My advise is to start with propecia it has a 84% success rate. dutasteride is not proven and side effects are not all known. So i would suggest starting with propecia

im going straight to dutas(generic), it's prob not the smartest approach, but it is the most aggressive (concerning DHT inhibitors) and that's my plan for the first three months then i may switch to finasteride or stay on dutasteride after i see how if it halts my hairloss. I'm not looking for too much regrowth but stopping it where it is would be very nice.

i read somewhere that dutasteride can reduce DHT up to 90 percent in just two weeks (google if you want proof of my claim :p)

good luck btw

I would start with finasteride. But if you really want to start with dutasteride, then please do only take it every other day.
Your body need the potential for a increasement.

everybody starts with finasteride first i think. this is because it is actually FDA approved for hairloss andso doctors are able prescribe it. there have also been more studies for finasteride and its safety. so i say go with finasteride first. i started with finasteride and after about 2 years i have decided to switch to generic dutasteride...

See that's what I'm kind of a afraid of. I don't wanna waste 2 years of my life trying a treatment that may not work for me and waste all that hair that I may never see again.

start with finasteride.

It will hold you steady. That's all you can hope for in this game, is to hold where you are or slow things. You're already screwed. Just accept that :)

Big regrowth at this point is only for a tiny, tiny percentage of people, even on dutasteride. You wanna think of your car tire going flat, while you're driving, first thing to try is a patch, then you go to the fix a flat. After the fix a flat, you've got nothing else to go to.

As long as finasteride is holding you steady, stay away from the dutasteride. dutasteride has serious side effects. No joke, man.

shave it down to 2mm while you can still do it on purpose, start on finasteride and minoxidil foam (godly stuff), and forget about it. The cure will be here in a matter of years.

dutasteride is a last step. THE last step.

BTW, this is not some pessimist speaking, this is a very, very positive responder to medications, and with lots of experience observing 'the game'.

I HAVEN'T even considered dutasteride yet. Thank god. But I am looking at that new super topical with dutasteride/Flut/minox15%. I'm gonna do it. Topical dutasteride is less scary, I think. And that new topical looks like nuclear powered stuff. Ka-Pow!

$80 a month for the three month bottle. I'll do that, plus my morning 5% foam, plus finasteride, should be golden until 2014 hopefully.

Timi mentioned that he thinks now that the minoxidil was to blame for all of his problems....anyone who is thinking of starting to take dutasteride, dont listen to a word timi says about his experiences with it, he changes his mind on whats causing all of his problems constantly...no offense Timi, but i think new users should not take your psots seriously

you said all the time in all your posts that dutasteride was causing you all those problems and it made your hairloss worse, and now you say it was a mistake to drop dutasteride and you are going back to it? i dont think anyone can take you seriously, sorry.

And half the time no one really understands what the heck Timi is saying? :innocent: Although I think you maybe right about minoxidil eating the hairline, Timi.

Timi, how long did it take you to see the hair got better after you quit minoxidil? I am serious starting to think it does eat the hairline because the only places my hair looks the worst is where I put my topicals. I thought it might be the finasteride but if you got better without it, I am thinking to start weening off of it too. I need to know how long you have stopped it and how long did it take for you to see improvement?

Timi, you have only stopped minoxidil for 10 days so far? Or when was the last time you used minoxidil?
