Questions about trimming a lace hairpiece

I just got a lace hairpiece (non custom) and have ordered a custom fit one.
I have a question regarding trimming the lace hairpieces, actually two related questions:

- The hairpiece has excess lace around the outer edges and I know that it needs to be trimmed. What's best to trim it off with, scissors, razor blade, etc.


- Can the lace style hairpieces be trimmed a little in width. This one that I just got is close to the width of the custom ones that I'm getting but is just a little wider. Can it be trimmed in width ?

Any and all edges can be trimmed down.

I preferr an xacto blade.. razor blade will work.
I trim from the base side, carefully, slowly, making sure to just cut thru the base and not thru the hair above.

I pin the base, hair side down to a block. I use my left hand to hold the blank lace with slight tension and slice carefully with the blade in my right hand.
