Proscar, and their irregular shaped tablets

For you people with proscar prescriptions, how do you deal with the irregular shape of the tablets? Merck is adamently trying to prevent people from cutting their pills into quarters.

Do you just cut them into quarters to the best of your ability, or has everyone switched off of Proscar to a generic brand; with me still living in "3-years-ago" unbeknownst to this transition everyone's made?

I just received my first prescription, and I was a little choked to discover the odd shape of the tablet, that's all.

Hi, I use a pill cutter box, do you?
I didn't know M was objecting to dividing their pill. Is this because the coating is supposed to protect the finasteride from the stomach acid?
Do you have a reference on the subject?
