hello everyone..
I am nineteen years old and started on propecia about 6 months ago.
i didnt wanna mess with my hormones too much so instead of 1 mg everyday....i decided to take .5 mg everyother day....so thats like quarter of what is recommended!!

it definitely works...works like a charm infact
Not a lot of hair loss ne more..infact i can swear my hair line has come down about 1/5th of an inch...

Now thw big question...
i know eventually the results will start to wear off
so when to i up the dose....and could some one please discuss how long b4 propecia stops working.

this thing is very cool drug.

thanks

When to up the dose: Once you start shedding for longer than 2 months without recovery. Not before! You may/will shed again even if its working. Sheds don't typically last longer than a couple weeks. So that will be your sign.

When does it stop working: 1mg daily has continued to work for men even into their 7th year according to the extended clinical trial data.

upping

HairLossTalk.com! Does this mean I should up my Propecia dose? I've been on P for over 9 months now and I continue to lose lots of hair in the shower and sink, both miniturized and terminal hairs. My situation continues to get worse...receding and thinning. But I have no side effects. Should I up my dose?

I took 1mg a day, and my dick stopped working and my libido was destroyed, and it took 18 months after stopping to actually feel how I was before I started taking it.

Do not take 1mg a day. Stick to your current dose, and do not take more unless you truly feel it has completely stopped working for you.

Joe, no, Merck states that hair may continue to fall until the 12 month mark. Assuming you're on nizoral shampoo as well, give it that long before you give up.

And you wouldn't up your dosage at the 12 month mark. You're at 1mg already. Going higher likely wont help. You would at that time consider adding something like Rogaine or Tricomin... or Topical spironolactone lotion to assist with DHT inhibition.

To all lurkers, newbies, those who are easily scared by such posts. Nick didn't bother to mention that he is a rare case, and this is not common at all, for propecia users. I know tons of guys in the real world using Propecia and literally none of them have a single side effect. It's a very well tolerated drug.

I'm good

I'm beginning my 4 month of Propecia, just started using T-gel every other da. No side effects, but seems to be getting better. I just don't want it to wear of in like 5 years or so.

To everybody. I'm just suggesting that you be careful and treat this like a real drug. It is a real drug and can make you have side effects. But hey, if you're losing your hair, there's nothing better currently out there.

Hey

HairLossTalk.com, but I lose lots of hair in the shower and sink and the hairs on the hairline all seem to be getting smaller and less dense. I've been noticing more and more vellus hairs falling out as my situation gets worse....So things can still all of a sudden turn around? I thought sheds are only supposed to last 1-3 months.

I have read where users have sheds for the 1st 3 or 4 months, then shed at the 8th and 12/13 months. I have read where users shed for the entire 8 months and then stopped shedding, and i have read where some never get sheds.

I know you are concerend if you are still losing but you have to have faith in the statistics that the drug will work for you. Odds are in your favor that it will atleast stop the hairloss.

But yes, the shedding can also stop quite dramatically.

Joe - you're kinda repeating yourself :) All i can do is repeat myself. Merck says it may take 12 months before you see a stoppage of hair loss. Technically you have no way of monitoring the density of each hair so you can't really make the claim that your hairs are getting thinner.

You would have to be able to follow that one exact follicle as it produced a hair, measure its width, then wait while it goes dormant and grows another hair 5 months later, then measure width again. Not possible. Visual perception leaves out a lot of important facts.

Give it 12 months.

Healthy Nick - Saw Palmetto causes more side effects in many people than Propecia does. So this differentiation you're making between "drug" and ... whatever you call saw palmetto, is somewhat deceptive. "Treat it like a drug". Technically you'd have to treat saw palmetto like a drug too using that argument... and we all know people consider SP "natural". My point is this whole herbal person logic about "drugs" versus "natural" is many times inconsistent and full of contradictions. Natural drugs can cause side effects and health problems just as much as Synthetic Drugs do... especially in a world where Natural Drugs are less regulated. Maybe a better term would be "Natural Drug" than ... "Natural" versus "Drug".

Yes the "natural is good" motto is often misguided and dead wrong! Arsenic is natural, as is radiation.

Propecia sucks - no desire to have sex
Rogaine sucks - I can barely breathe sometimes
Every other snake oil I hear about sucks, and doesn't do much.

I think they will all be obsolete in a few years.

Posts like this do absolutely no good to anyone who views or posts here. Try to be a *lot* more factually grounded in your posts please. Scaring people, generalizing, and making blanket statements only scares newbies and lurkers away from two treatments that could make their sadness go away.

I totally agree. I don't doubt the powers of saw palmetto either.

Nick, are you back to normal now??

Yes. I am finally back to normal now. And I am happy and satisfied with where I am at, so I won't complain. But, I still don't actually know if I am back 100% to where I was. I remember my libido being much, much stronger. And now, although strong, it isn't nearly as strong as it was. But the most important thing is that the plumbing is working now. Because that's what scared me the most. But, I am an example of somebody that rebounded from the effects. However, I was only on Propecia for 6 months. Others that have been on it longer may take longer to rebound, but that is purely speculation.
