Title.
What should I do? I'm not on finasteride yet but I badly need to increase my T and I'm afraid I'll lose even more hair.

Finasteride will give you a small testosterone boost and keep your hair.

This is a bit of a myth which is constantly put out on hair loss forums. Finasteride increases total testosteronr slightly because it no longer converts to DHT, but it also decreases free testosterone which is the type that your body can use. Along with an increase in estrogen (to balance the increased total test) then it is not in my opinion particularly great for any man, let alone someone with testosterone issues. Maybe TRT with finasteride...i don't know.

increase T, how exactly? Unless you have a stupidly sh!tty diet there isn't much you can do to dramatically change ur natural levels. The principle factor is age when it comes to test levels, they decline sharply as you approach 40 and even 30 in some cases.

If you plan on taking exogenous testosterone its possible to take finasteride and test without much detriment to your hair, although that depends on how bad your hairloss is.

it's not a myth it's a fact, and how much depends on prior DHT levels.

Finasteride blocks the action of an enzyme called 5-alpha-reductase. This enzyme changes testosterone to another hormone that causes the prostate to grow or hair loss in males. It will increase testosterone levels in the body, which decreases prostate size and increases hair growth on the scalp.

Did you read the post? He said finasteride will increase testosterone slightly, wich makes sense. But it lowers FREE testosterone.

Yep. And as i understand it, free testosterone is the really important figure as it is the type which your body can utilise. I'm happy to be corrected if someone knows more but that is my belief.

I said 'myth' because people talk about finasteride like it is somehow good for you in ways because of this increase in testosterone. But that is probably irrelevant when the free testosterone drops and especially when the estrogen rises.

I think the only medically positive (non cosmetic) use of finasteride can be in men (usually older) with enlarged prostates and risks of prostate cancer. Otherwise its not ideal to play with the hormones.
