Hi, I just turned 21 and have suffered from male pattern baldness since the age of 17/18 - in terms of the receded temples.
I was under the perhaps ostrich-like illusion that my har would ramain there (NW2) as there was little change (in my mind) until just recently. I have on and off lost hair during showering, applying gel etc but very steadily, mabye 20-30 hairs daily, thought nothing of this. I am lucky that until now i have been able to hide the temples with the longer hair around them however....

Went on a hike last month, which dryed my hair out something rotten, nearly fell over when i saw reflection in mirror. I had never noticed the thinning before, and since noticing it has steadily gotten worse. I had very innflamed scalp (which i thought wa ssunburn) and did lose a far few hairs, though not much more than usual. Now that it is a day-to-day problem, i notice how many hairs are scattered around my flat, my flatmates never mentioned it however.

I saw a dermotologist, who took a sample (transgramm or something not sure( and told me i had 45% (i assume resting) follacles in frontal region (his english was poor (I am currently abroad for a year)) compared to 15% round the back, he told me my outlook is bleak and I will probably lose all frontal hair within 2 years. However prescribed me propecia (and since 5mg version) since i read here.

This is my current pitiful state...hair is long as i want my parents/family to see me with hair for mabye one last time (sad thing is i was home 2 months ago...and everything seemed relatively fine (barber said nothing etc) - i think ive had acceleration in that time for sure - its now fairly noticable even after styling)

I can JUST ABOUT get away with it currently, however my hair needs cutting and then im buggered.

I should mention that 3 months ago i dabbled with kirkland minoxidil just on my temples for 2 weeks, I doubt that is an issue however.

For now I am taking Propecia 1mg soon to be proscar 1mg, a hair growth vitamin called aminocarin (from dermo) will buy Nizoral and mabye will add rogaine in a few weeks.

Couple of questions if its not too much hassle:-

Since my 1st propecia (10 days ago) - no sides to report, My scalp innflamation did calm down however I am still losing hair from behing my hairline when i run my hands through it - is this common?

Also I noticed today some very very fine white hairs on my hairline (juvelile hairline at that) - i know its very unlikely but could these be recovered?

I think i also suffer from dermatitis as my face can become very dry at certain patches, I also in the past 2 weeks until now have had a very tight dandruff-full scalp. I may have calmed this now though

Thanks for reading

Yeah you're balding, but you've caught it in the early stages. It might be a hassle at 20 but stick with the finasteride and if you're in the same situation in years to come it wont be bad at all.

Thanks for the positivity so far...i really hope I have caught it early enough.

Ive noticed during the past 3 days i dont have many hairs fall out when i rub my hand through, must be a good sign I guess. Its depressing how brittle my frontal hairs are though, i can pull 5 out at a time with the tiniest pull (ive stopped myself doing it now mind).

Most annoying thing is....i saw a video of me 3 months ago just after a haircut and I was in MUCH better state than this....but I havent had a DRAMATIC shed, just 40 or so i notice daily (at worst)....I dont understand what is going on...but im trying to stay positive.

Any idea whether 2 weeks of kirkland minoxidil application 4 months ago could cause a "shed"? What Norwood would I be classed as now?
