Look to drop finasteride, what will replace it?

I'm thinking about dropping finasteride and going topical only. But I'd like to know what topical would deliver the most comparable results. I had excellent results with finasteride in the first two years and have been slowly losing ground since. I'd like to go topical and "clean my body out" so to speak.
Has anyone else tried this? What did you use as a replacement?
