Hi all! First time posting here. Well, here's my story...
At age 16, I started noticing a lot of hair loss. In the shower, on my pillow...just about everywhere. Kids in my Highschool never really said anything until I was about 17. It started getting noticeable. Not really so much a receding hairline, as it was general thinning all over. I just told people I was going through medical treatment and it made my hair thin. They seemed to buy that one. Heh.
My Mom read about this stuff called Toppik, and let me tell you, this stuff changed my life. It COMPLETELY solved my problem! I felt so confident and happy all the time. The only downsides? I obviously wouldn't let anyone touch my hair. Around 18-19, the hair loss started to creep in on the front area, so I had to push the hair over where it was falling out and kind of make my own hairline with Toppik. That worked, for awhile...
I shaved my head back in December of 2003 because I was sick and tired of Toppik. My hair loss had gotten to a point where the stuff just didn't cover it up very well at all. I'm 20 now, and I guess I have the "landing strip" style of hair loss. My crown is almost completely gone, but I do have a single strip going up the front. It kind of branches like a T.
Although I have gotten very positive responses about shaving my head completely (I guess you call it "bic'ing" your head?), I'm still a little weary about going out without a hat on. I still think about it. I'm still embarrassed by it. I've yet to go to a specialist about this. I guess I'm just afraid he/she will tell me that there is no hope. I'm making an appointment tomorrow, though.
I've seen so many success stories on here about Rogaine and Propecia being used together. I'm anxious to try it. Now, I want to continue to shave my head, seeing as how that's the only way I look somewhat normal. Will I still be able to use Rogaine properly? Isn't it a gell? My hair grows back pretty darn quick after I shave it, so I won't be applying it directly to my scalp. I don't know. I need to try SOMETHING.
Ah, feels good to type it all out to people who know what I'm going through. I definately didn't plan this happening to me anytime soon. It really isn't fair at all, but I guess that's life.
Thanks for reading.
