Hi all! First time posting here. Well, here's my story...

At age 16, I started noticing a lot of hair loss. In the shower, on my pillow...just about everywhere. Kids in my Highschool never really said anything until I was about 17. It started getting noticeable. Not really so much a receding hairline, as it was general thinning all over. I just told people I was going through medical treatment and it made my hair thin. They seemed to buy that one. Heh.

My Mom read about this stuff called Toppik, and let me tell you, this stuff changed my life. It COMPLETELY solved my problem! I felt so confident and happy all the time. The only downsides? I obviously wouldn't let anyone touch my hair. Around 18-19, the hair loss started to creep in on the front area, so I had to push the hair over where it was falling out and kind of make my own hairline with Toppik. That worked, for awhile...

I shaved my head back in December of 2003 because I was sick and tired of Toppik. My hair loss had gotten to a point where the stuff just didn't cover it up very well at all. I'm 20 now, and I guess I have the "landing strip" style of hair loss. My crown is almost completely gone, but I do have a single strip going up the front. It kind of branches like a T.

Although I have gotten very positive responses about shaving my head completely (I guess you call it "bic'ing" your head?), I'm still a little weary about going out without a hat on. I still think about it. I'm still embarrassed by it. I've yet to go to a specialist about this. I guess I'm just afraid he/she will tell me that there is no hope. I'm making an appointment tomorrow, though.

I've seen so many success stories on here about Rogaine and Propecia being used together. I'm anxious to try it. Now, I want to continue to shave my head, seeing as how that's the only way I look somewhat normal. Will I still be able to use Rogaine properly? Isn't it a gell? My hair grows back pretty darn quick after I shave it, so I won't be applying it directly to my scalp. I don't know. I need to try SOMETHING.

Ah, feels good to type it all out to people who know what I'm going through. I definately didn't plan this happening to me anytime soon. It really isn't fair at all, but I guess that's life.

Thanks for reading.

Sounds like you got hit young. No doubt your hair has taken a bit of a battering, but you still have hair. What would you class yourself as on the Norwood scale that is available on this website (use search function)

Chances are if you leave your hair to its natural devices you will probably be bald in 3 - 4 years. So its not to late and if your a good responder you could even grow some back and thicken your existing hair... sounds like you will never have that pre puberty hair back but you could hold off full baldness for years/decades depending on your commitment.

Best thing for you would indeed be proscar, minoxidil (regaine) and Nizoral shampoo. Many a poster on this website has had considerable success with this regimen.

good luck and scour through this website for info

EDIT... Rogaine is a topical liquid and can be applied to a shaved head or one with hair...easier with a shaved head though.

I would classify myself as a Class 5 on the Norwood scale. The weird thing is, the hair on the front is THERE. It's just VERY thin and short. I would assume this is just another stage in the hair loss. I'm going to make an appointment shortly with a specialist and see what he reccomends. Do you think you could post specific links to where I can buy Proscar and Nizoral? I can't seem to find them.

Thank you for the advice!

I'm from the UK and use UK based sites. For proscar though they do post abroad, http://www.qhi.co.uk

One i hear some American posters using is http://www.drugshipper.com but there are probably cheaper sites available. Using Google for example will bring up loads on websites selling hairloss drugs.

This website also sells many useful products.
