Hey everyone,
I'm hoping I can get some advice/opinions on my current situation after having been on finasteride for some time now. When I went to see the dermatologist my hair was thinning/receding some at the temples and he said it was thinning at the crown too, though I couldn't see that at the time. He gave me the prescription for finasteride which I've been taking since about mid-November. I did notice some shedding during the initial three to four months, but I couldn't see a visible difference; it was mainly just that I would have a lot of hair on my hands after applying styling products and such.
More recently I thought I was seeing an improvement but now I'm questioning if it isn't actually getting worse. It seems a little less full on one of my temples and feels like the hair lays differently than before. The crown seems possibly a little thinner as well, though it's hard to tell with that because I didn't pay as much attention to it originally and how it looks seems to depend a lot on the lighting.
I guess I'm wondering if there could be any explanation for why it would seem to be thinning further at this stage. I've only really noticed the difference in the last week to two, but if it's that the finasteride isn't working I thought maybe I should look into switching to dutasteride or something (I haven't had any side effects, by the way). I've just added minoxidil in hopes that this will help improve things, but I'm now questioning if that's a bad idea since I then wouldn't be able to tell if any hair loss was just shedding from using that.
Anyone have any similar experiences or thoughts? Could it just be that some of my hair has gone into the resting phase and is creating the illusion that I'm losing hair when it's really just going through its natural cycle? Am I totally paranoid and it's all in my head (no pun intended)?
Thanks guys. This stuff really blows.
