I'm scared to start on minoxidil... am I being silly?

I've been on Proscar for the better part of eight months now. I haven't seen much improvement, in fact I'm beginning to think I'm continuing to thin out at my hairline, but that may very well be in my own head. But I'm pretty content with the fact that I'm doing about as much as I can to fight DHT at the source.

I have a decent amount of hair and I'm bordering on almost NW3. I'd like to thicken up what I have to make it easier to conceal my thinning hairline, but I have to admit, where I wasn't a great big worry wart about Finasteride, I am with minoxidil. I realize that with any product there is going to be a considerable amount of people screaming about side effects, but for some reason the whole minoxidil face (which may be a myth), body hair growth and dry skin (I've heard people claim it that it leads to wrinkles?) things really bother me.

I'll admit I'm a newb and don't know how true those side effects are, but it does put me off of wanting to try minoxidil. I'm a bit of a vain bastard and while I could deal with taking the plunge with finasteride, I'm hesitant to jump on minoxidil because the last thing I need is skin problems, bloating or body hair on top of everything else.

Am I just buying into paranoia?

Just keep the stuff away from your face; change pillow cases regularly.

Use a good brand of face wash and buy some under eye cream. I haven't got a single wrinkle from using minoxidil. Only side effect for me is a bit of back hair.

Get a good skin care routine and you'll have no problem. So many people haven't a clue!

As for the minoxidil face--if you're one of the unfortunate ones, it'll happen very gradually. You won't just wake up one morning looking like a goblin (that's an extreme exaggeration). Before you make the commitment, take a few detailed photos of your face. Then just keep an eye on your face for the next few weeks. As for me, I never took many detailed pictures, but I was sure that I did not have wrinkles under my eyes before I started treatment. minoxidil does a lot of good for a lot of people. You don't want to potentially miss out on a lot of hair. I had to quit after two weeks. I never really had a shed period (I don't think), and my wrinkles are starting to go away. So I tried minoxidil, it wasn't for me, and I'm gladly moving on with my life.

Please, don't let yourself to be influeced by the hypochondriacs on internet forums. At first glance, it seems that 50% people report side effects, but in reality, these forums attract exotic oddballs that are often recruited from 1% users. Do you think that people, who use these drugs successfully and have no side effects, need to post on an internet forum "Hey, I would like to report that the stuff works and I have no side effects!" LOL

No. It's almost exclusively those, who are not successful and who experience side effects (sometimes rather fabricated).

I don't know, I think side effects hit more than 1% of users. I agree that only 1% posts on forums like this. Look at the thousands of views these forums have, though. There are a lot of quiet sufferers.
