HSC featured in Allure Magazine: The Science Issue (november edition)

    A Hair-Loss Solution

Gail K. Naughton is a leading researcher in the field of tissue engineering and the chief scientific officer of Histogen, a regenerative-medicine company in San Diego.

"For the last eight years, we’ve been testing and perfecting an injectable treatment for growing hair and have been seeing exciting results – new hair growth in as little as 12 weeks, with improvement still evident after one year. The treatment, called HSC, works by targeting stem cells in the hair follicles with a mix of naturally secreted growth factors. One factor, follistatin, allows dormant stem cells to shift into a new hair-growth cycle. Another, keratinocyte growth factor, causes cells to proliferate and grow, converting a baby hair into a mature hair or creating brand-new hair. My big aha moment, believe or not, came when I showed before-and-after photos from our first clinical study to my neighbor’s five-year-old daughter – she pointed to each after picture and said, 'More hair! More hair!' I mean, truly striking results. The U.S. trials are planned to commence in 2018; we expect it to gain approval in Mexico first, perhaps in 2020, and then in the U.S. sometime after that.

    It was a typo:

    Here's the correct passage:
"My big aha moment, believe or not, came when I showed before-and-after photos from our first clinical study to my neighbor’s five-year-old daughter – she pointed to each after picture and said, 'Comb over! Comb over!' I mean, truly striking results ."

Lurk around here for long enough and you'll start to appreciate the word "alive" for potential stuff

Lurking around here for long enough made me thinking of a tattoo on my forehead where "5 years" is engraved, just to stop me from getting a buzzcut..again

They declined to accept money for their product or let me be a trial
    in it.

I really hope they do come out.

Unfortunately, Gail seems more interested in skin care products at this point. I'm
    not really hopeful at all.

Releasing their product in 2020 means they're going to have to compete with much better treatments. Everything regarding hair loss treatments will be settled during the next decade, and they're all racing to the finish line, scrambling for money and market shares.

If the fact that her "a-ha" moment was a 5yo kid telling her she saw results in the comb-over doesn't tell you she's freaking fake... Nothing else will... Seriously, she had the pictures but only realized had improvements after a kid pointed that?

    Fuck off!!!

No kidding. Nothing screams desperation more than child exploitation in product promotion. And from a scientist...Jesus!

I really do hope they are out in Mexico. If they haven't started trials in the U.S. yet, then that's why
I was rejected ( I live in the United States, and they are definitely not doing trials in the east U.S.,
    as far as I know).

If it does get approved in 2020 in Mexico, I will definitely be a buyer.
