Hello,
I've been involved in a couple of hair loss forums but this is my first visit here so I thought I'd share my story.
I'll be turning 40 later this year and have been experiencing hair loss since around age 23. My loss started with a thin spot on the crown and gradually moved forward over the years. The temples and hairline receeded a little, but not that bad. Since I'm tall, I kept up the "illusion" of a full head of hair, but, from the back of the head......watch out
In my mid to late twenties, I tried Rogaine sporadically. Sources of information were different then and I hadn't lost much hair. I didn't like the regimen of Rogaine or the greasy feel of my hair so I quit using it. I think I started having the ability to surf the net around 1994 or so (age 28) and read more and more about loss and prevention. In my early 30's, I tried Propecia but stopped taking it after a few months due to uncertainties at the time with respect to effects on the liver. Looking back...........if I'd kept taking it I might have avoided the need for a hair transplant ever. Especially since most of my loss was in the crown.
Finally, at age 38, I had done enough research to feel comfortable with getting an hair transplant. My father had gotten one in the early 90's with the micro's and mini's and it sparked my interest. The results actually turned out pretty good though he only got 400 grafts. Anyway, my first transplant I received 1200 grafts placed mainly in the front and hairline. I really wanted work done to the crown but was eventually sold on framing the face. As it turns out, I wish I'd researched further because I had been lead to believe that 'most people don't come back a second time". The quality of the transplant was okay, but I now had even thicker hair in the front, with a big, big bald spot in the back which I hated.
This past February, I receved 3886 grafts from Dr. Wong in Vancouver, BC. My crown was totally covered and there were enough to fine tune the temples and hairline from my previous hair transplant. I'm only at 7 weeks during recovery and experienced shock loss so I'm anxiously awaiting the arrival of the sprouting of the new grafts. The past few weeks I've had several ingrown hairs which is a sign that they're starting to pop up. Hopefully, the next month or two will show visable results.
Since I'm new, I'm not sure how to post the pics but will do so when I figure it out.
