hair problems around the sides and back

I am 60 years old and beyond the help of the various products that will grow more hair for the top and front of my head. But I have been very happy for many years with a hairpiece. However, in the last 3 years, the hair around the sides and back of my head has thinned greatly and is becoming very fine. If I can find a product that will thicken this hair, my hairpiece will continue to do the job for me. If not, I'm doomed.

I've read that the hair loss attributed to various testosterone like hormones are NOT the cause of loss on the sides and back, so I'm in a quandary as to what products might be of help to me. If anyone has any experience with this, I'd greatly appreciate some insights.

let the hair on your sides grow longer if you're cutting it short or trimming it all the time and then use a thickening shampoo. or you can go the other route and use couvre or toppik on your sides. can't think of any other solution. by the way, you have a lot of guts wearing a hairpiece. i rather shave my head than wear one. 99% of people can tell someone is wearing a piece a mile away

I use a hairpiece from Hair club for Men. and it's the best I've ever seen. I"ve had friends I've known for years that have no idea I wear one.

I have the same problem...get rid of any gray and if you have dark hair....color the sides. They will look much thicker after.

Perhaps he could use a bit of Topik on days he wants the added look? Up to you guys who use it, I have never tried Topik.

As Hopewas said, people can spot a piece a mile away, but should all else fail down the road......I would rather have a good looking piece than walk around with how I would look bald. Even if other people can spot it. I would look like a tard bald. sigh........go finasteride go.......thank you for working.........

Definitely try Rogaine/Minoxidil around the sides. At best it might thicken up the hair a bit and give you some improvement. At worst, it'll help you keep what ya got.

A number of people have made posts about definitely spotting hair pieces a mile away. A while back, one of the guys in my Sunday school class = who has t he same baldness pattern that I have - really liked my piece and was considering getting one himself. He brought a visitor to class one Sunday and told him that one of the men in this class was wearing a hairpiece and asked him to tell him which one. There were 7 other men in the class. He selected one by one - five different men - and none of them was me. Good ones DO NOT stand out.

Very true, skullcap. And even if people can pick one out if given a chance for close examination, I think that as long as it is a real looking one, that is, one with good quality hair and well-fitted, well-cut, and well-maintained, people don't think twice about it. But, if people notice someone wearing a cheap hairpiece, or one that is poorly maintained or has a really bad cut, then people start looking twice.

skull..i guess you may have a goof piece, but still you've been paying a huge price for maintanences, etc...by being a hcm. i don't know..i see a lot of people, especially older people with rugs and it's so obvious. but if it makes you guys happy. go for it.

I've seen a lot of people with 'obvious rugs' as well, and they're the ones that give the good pieces a bad name. LOL As for maintenance, I do it myself - or I should say my wife does it. I buy them and have the initial trim in and styling done at Hair Club, but after that, we do it ALL ourselves. The expense can be significant if you have to go there all the time. My wife even cuts my hair when it needs it. (But the way things are going, a problem is looming. If it gets so thin that the piece will be obvious, I'll stop wearing it and go au natural. But right now, it still looks great.
