Is anyone else ricockulously gentle with their hair? like when shapooing you never disturb the natural order? never mess it up and never comb it just sorta shampoo with your fingertips and then get out and air dry? Well that was me for a long time until last night i really let my hair have it i combed it hard and lathered hard, i thought i was done with a shed but...no... I dont think you are supposed to be super gentle with your hair because the hairs that need shed are just going to stay around that much longer making your success time seem forever. I don't know just a theory.

You do know that a full head of human hair can support your body weight, right?

Being "gentle" with your hair is not going to help you or prevent a shed, lol.

When my hair started thinning three years ago, I quit blowing drying my hair (except on rare occasions) and started letting it dry on its own. After a shower, I comb it once into place and let it dry. I figured all the extra brushing during blow drying was just going to pull out more hair. I wasn't sure it would grow back. Yea, I'm gentle with it but I don't obsess over being gentle. I give my scalp a slight massage during shampooing. Sometimes I find hair in the bottom of the tub and sometimes I don't.

i'm pretty rough with my hair when i towel dry it, some pretty vigorous towel drying, and my hair's easily the best it's been all year, so I don't really think it matters, personally.

I towel dry quite heavily and I think this causes you to break hair. It makes sense, there's a fair bit of talk about this on the net.

No more heavy towel drying for me. I wash my hair everyday and towel dry one specific area heavily (without thinking) so I'm stopping and maybe my scalp will thicken up a little, that's if my problem is down to towel drying.

Being gentle / looking after your hair can only help if you ask me, but won't cure a definate problem.

Blot wet hair, don't rub.

if you rub it hard can this cause the hairs in the region to be shorter?

I've been rubbing hard for years in one patch in the middle of my head, i'm beginning to think that this is what my problem is, here's hoping! time will tell I guess.

i don't care what anyone says, i am SURE that rubbing/combing your hair hard has a bad effect on your hair.

i stopped doing this about a year ago & my hair looks much better for it

don't know the science behind it, just my own personal experience

basically I think it just fucks it up. it's like, even something stronger like carpet gets worn out through a similar kind of thing! rubbing every day is going to cause wear really.

I find that very light rubbing / patting actually drys my hair MUCH quicker and leaves it with a bit more life, I think rubbing makes your scalp / hair more oily aswell so it's good to avoid!

I don't know if it's science or more just common sense . . . ie. wet hair is simply more susceptible to breaking. That's why you're not supposed to comb wet hair w/ a fine toothed comb, towel dry vigorously, or massage, pull, or tug wet hair.

i used to be so gentle with my hair...barely get the scalp when shampooing then just hold it under the shower hoping it got all of the shampoo it...
that was retarted...if anything my scalp was not as clean as it should have been because i wasnt getting the excess dirt, gel, and skin off...those hairs that fall out wiill fall out anyways..i know its tough to accept, but you gota realize those hairs that fell out were not growing....the ones that are growing can withstand someone dragging you across the room by your hair.

but now i learned to shampoo like i did for the 22 years i didnt have this problem, and dry my hair with a towel like any other normal person...

Exactly. That is just ignorant. You have to have good scalp maintenance but that does not mean scrubbing your head. Does anyone think that head excessive head scratching will inrease hairloss? cuz I know it increases inflammation.

Towel rubbing is one of the worst things you can do to your hair. It breaks and makes it look thinner. Anyone for a good towel rub?

Absolutely! Let's go to San Francisco and make it official!

I am quite rough with my hair, and I think my hair enjoys it. A well-placed 'love slap' can have quite a stimulating effect.
