Merry Xmas Everyone!

So, this is my second thread I've started on here and it's to make the BIG announcement - I've officially started finasteride after years of hesitation and fear. I was prescribed the 1 mg dosage, and have been taking .5 mg every day for about a week. I've read from several reputable sources that .25 mg has nearly the same effect as 1 mg (still decreases approx 60% of the DHT in the body), and can potentially mitigate the possibility of experiencing side effects. So it only makes sense to ease my body into the treatment by cutting the pills in half.

Anyway, I will be updating this thread every few months and letting everyone know my progress as it hopefully comes. Absolutely zero side effects yet, but it's only been a week as I mentioned before. I WILL say however that my scalp has literally experienced ZERO itchiness this week which as you know is unusual for those suffering from male pattern baldness.

My treatment --> Rogaine Foam at night, nizoral 2x week, Topical spironolactone at night (until the bottle runs out), and also .5 mg of finasteride every day.

That all being said, I just want to give a background into my story so hopefully I can give someone out there a bit of insight and resolution. I am a VERY confident person, always have been/ always will, and never had any problems with women (in fact, I'd say my main problem is staying monogamous). Still though, hair loss has truly been the bane of my existence since I first started to recede at 18. I've experienced absolutely no hair loss to my crown, but my frontal area has continued to thin over time. Worrying about getting hair cuts, how my hair looks after the fact, and whether or not I styled it right to cover up my thinning -- things like that truly wear on ANY person's ego.

What did i do about it? Got on nizoral, Rogaine, and spironolactone and have been on those treatments for 2 years. Let me tell you, what a PAIN in the *** those treatments are. I'd say between shampoo'ing and application of the Rogaine/ spironolactone, I'm spending 15 minutes a day fighting a losing battle. So I finally manned up and decided to take finasteride. My dermatologist assured me that the chances of side effects are truly minimal and that the majority of her patients have nothing but positive experiences from taking the drug.

Obviously I'm not a Doctor, but I want to recommend to you younger guys (I'm 23) to GET on this drug as soon as possible as it is undisputed the best treatment out there. I am about a norwood 3, but as long as I can thicken up my front and STOP further damage to my hair, I will be more than happy. The bottom line is Finasteride (if you get the generic Proscar version) can ultimately be a cost effective AND time effective solution to this cosmetic issue. Any regimen WITHOUT finasteride is a time consuming battle that at best slows down your hair loss, but not to the degree that finasteride does.

Any way, you can see my pics in the other thread that I started, but I will update this thread going forward with new photos and any updates. Any Q's just ask!
