Any 'real' idea of how effective and safe it is, and how long it takes for it to work, as propecia takes at least 6 months to work...

Madhair82,

That's the problem, no long term feedback since dutasteride is another medication for the prostrate. Clinically speaking, we do know that it inhibits both Type I and II DHT where finasteride only inhibits Type I.

Alot of patients I have known to try it have purchased Avodart (label) which is not approved by the FDA for treating male pattern baldness. The feedback varies quite a bit. I would suggest you read up on all of the potential side-effects both from the drug manufacturer(s) as well as what patients have reported on the internet.

Propecia (finasteride) is the only medication developed and approved for hairloss other than minoxidil in the US. I have heard and seen better results with finasteride than any other medication used for hairloss.
