Does nizoral cause dandruff?

I know it sounds like a silly question, but I noticed dandruff this morning (or at least flaky white stuff) on my hair at the sides for the first time. Only change I have made so far is my shampoo - used nizoral twice in the past week. I know it can dry out your scalp......could this be the culprit?

Also have noticed more hair coming out in the shower. I may just be looking for it, but does nizoral have this effect at the start for some?

Thanks!

I started getting dandruff after starting Nizoral. Before then, I never had a problem with dandruff :(. I also shed A LOT with Propecia and my scalp hurts almost all the time :(.

doesn't nizoral dry out your hair. So maybe you guys are putting too much on and its drying your hair out a lot causing the dandruff. You only need to apply a dime size amount in your palm and then rub it in your hair.

same here

i noticed a few months back that i had some white scum on my scalp i could scape off with my nails - i dont have dandruff, but i have a lot of skin peeling off my scalp ... its like skin+oil mix ...

regardless, i thought it was odd. isnt nizoral supposed to prevent this? ive never had dandruff in my life ...

another thing - why do we use antidandruff shampoos? arent we trying to dry our scapls? doesnt oil/sebum supposedly cause hairloss or affect the follicles? if thats the case, why not use a shampoo that dries the scalp, not one that - i assume - doent dry (moisturizes??) the scalp in an effort to prevent dry flakes aka dandruff ...

Nizoral can cause contact dermatitis. If you have itchy / scaly scalp, this is what you're seeing. If you scratch it enough, I guess you could see flakes onto your shoulders and so forth. You should check your hands to see if you see any scaly or white patches as this will probably reconfirm that you're having a reaction to something.
