Do I show signs of male pattern baldness?

I have been losing a lot of hair when showering and styling (i flat iron my hair), and ive noticed a large amount coming out (with follicle), seems like an abnormal amount. My hair is not as thick as it used to be but I know that could just be because im getting older and i style it. It does seem like I lose more than I should and its distressing seeing the amount of hair that comes out every day, and my hairline has definitely receeded. Do i show an alarming amount of recession or is this normal?
I am a 19 year old male, I smoke and drink, I have gilberts syndrome, but i have no other health issues as far as im aware.

Hey,

Slightly receding, could be a mature hairline; compare it with older photos to see if it has changed.

If you're losing an unusual amount of hair, it could be a sign of diffuse hair loss (happened the same way with me (without any recession though)), so keep and eye on your crown/vertex and your overall hair density. Also, check for miniaturized hair, that's a pretty conclusive sign of male pattern baldness.

Exclude other causes such as Telogen Effluvium (by doing a blood test or whatever) and try to stay objective.

Good luck!

Although you have a great hairline for now, there does seem to be a little miniaturization up front. If you get it confirmed and start on finasteride, you should keep your great hair for years to come.

Definetly male pattern baldness sings.
Same pattern as mine. You are losing hair and it will get worse in years to come. Try some meds.

This guy is 19, there is likely to be some miniaturisation as his hairline matures, he is still an NW1, it is usual to recede to an NW2 by his age with incredibly dense hair

I seem to be in a party of 1 here but Vinny I personally think your best bet is to take photos every 6 months and see if it gets worse.

Honestly, people saying to get on the big 3, from the age of 19. a lifetime commitment to a hormone altering drug in the process, while he has 98% of the hair he will ever have. Hes still got a lions mane!!

This forum freaks me out sometimes.

Vinny, Miniaturisation is when thick healthy hair is lost and replaced by weaker ones, it does this over time and eventually until the hair stops to grow at all. It appears you have some of this around your hairline, however this happens to almost all men your age, most guys do not have the same hairline at 16 that they do at 21. You could visit a dermatologist, they would be able to look at your whole head and see how much miniaturisation you have all over and thus, how likely this is to continue. I would do that before starting drugs for the rest of your life.

Space, we both know that is just for buying time before facing the truth.
You should know that "minurization" and "mature hairline" are two different things and their processes are developing in different ways.

MOST NON-BALDING MEN EXPIRIENCE MATURE HAIRLINE. That is slow and very long process in which hairline is moving forward. For someone it starts when hairline moves little bit up when boy is transforming into man. For others it starts in 20is or 30-is. Some men very slowly during lifetime transforms from NW0 to NW2 in their 60is. That is also example of mature hairline.
Point is in fact that "Mature hairline" process cant be tracked. Cant be noticed. No shedding, no thin, weak hair at the front.

With "minurization" its very obvious. It can be easily spotted. Sometimes the temples, sometimes whole hairline is weaking, losing darkness, and so on.
That is one of the first, and 99% reliable sign of male pattern baldness.

I know it, i have the same problem.

I really dont think you are qualified to make such assessments Gazza. This guy has minimal miniaturisation anyway, I believe he is slap bag in the middle of his hairline maturing. If he had this hairline for life he would have freakishly good hair, i suspect he is levelling off into normality. He also has better hair than most 19 year olds I know (before accusations of :gay: I have family members that age)

Unfortunately Gaz, you are going bald and are losing your macho alpha aesthetics, doesnt mean VinnyGee is though, hes still a lion.

Space, i am trying to be friend with you, honestly.
Most of people dont understand me here, but i asign that to lack of social inteligence. I think you can, so dont be rude.

I agree this guy looks good!
I am not dessperate and misantropic man like Seb. I dont want others to have what i have so "scores can be tied".
I am aware of loosing my aestethics, and that truth got me so hard i was seeing doctor for mind issues. In the meantime i was reading DOZENS of studies about start of hairloss.

Trust me, this guy is affected by male pattern baldness and its for sure.
He should fight ofcourse, he is nice guy.

Alright sorry, I misjudged you, I thought perhaps because you have an abrasive personality that you could tolerate a little gentle ribbing but now I know you are sensitive I wont do that again, I didnt think it would offend, so I do regret that.

For what its worth, you still have Macho Aesthetics, in fact they are maturing macho aesthetics which in my mind are superior, ive always thought its better to be a man than a boy, I love getting older, so if you concentrate on getting with women in their mid to late 20s instead of teeny girls then you will once again be the george micheal of the hairloss forums.
You still look like the kind of man that if you turned up to fix the plumbing at the house of a fit housewife, she would definately get ideas about you when you got under the sink. That is the highest compliment I can give a man!.

Regards Vinny, I never said he is not losing hair, I just dont think hes going to lose that much, but for peace of mind, consult a dermotologist

Haha no worries, glad thats sorted. I think thats great that your being honest and trying to save vinny some time but I also think we must caution against prescribing medicine before he even knows the extent of his situation. He is 19 and Finesteride is the drug that most guards against hairloss, but as it alters hormones I would advise against it at his age. I think he should take pictures, visit a derm first, that will assess the situation, then get on it if necessary. Vinny still has a lot of hair, and he still has a lot of life ahead of him to be on drugs. Think we may have to agree to disagree on this one

I actually agree with you- I said to get it confirmed. Even as a norwood 3 I'm not bothering with the big 3 because I'm only 18.
