Please read carefully, thoroughly and until the end.

I have registered on here JUST to make this point out.

I noticed that almost ANYONE that talked about decreased libido on all of the fora were shunned, ridiculed, or at least been told that they have another cause and should get themselves checked.

I am only here to make it clear that Minoxidil DOES decrease libido!

I am 30 years old obstetrics and gynecology specialists. So i am a medical graduate and i have a masters degree, so i know what i am talking about; at least in broad lines if you wanna hear from andrologists and/or urologists only.

I started putting on Rogaine on the 27th of August 2014, yes, only 19 days ago.
Only few days later, specifically one week, i noticed that i really, genuinely, became not interested (and i repeat not interested) in any sexual activity, or even thoughts, in a very gradual and insidious way.
These include: fantasizing, p**rn, even as much as flirting or contacting some friends with benefits. I even stopped having random boners and morning erections.

I thought at first that maybe i am somehow more.. mature? Or maybe i am more in control? I just didn't really care!

Until when after almost 9 or 10 days, i felt a very slight desire, and i had to actively promote it inside my mind to make it cause an erection!

And here is when things started to get ugly: i had a very weak erection!

So i went on to open some p**rn, and here where it got REALLY ugly: i had the softest erection ever!
I have NEVER in my life had such a weird erection! An erection that is practically not "hard", which naturally lead to premature ejaculation!

Order, order in the court please!

I know everyone will jump on me now telling me to not accuse Minoxidil for this, but hear me out till the end please.

I know everyone will jump on me saying these things i have seen in the other fora:
"Get your testosterone levels checked."
"Maybe you have problems with your girlfriend? Go to a psychiatrist"
"Go to a urologist, you probably have other issues."
"Minoxidil is not reported to cause ED!"
"Check your lifestyle."

Well, how about that i am an athletic, who doesn't smoke, doesn't drink, doesn't even take any form of caffeine, or even drinks coke or eat processed aliments? I am not on any other drugs, either for hair loss (Propecia for example) or for other reasons.

And i have this sudden out of nowhere ED coinciding with one week of Rogaine and i still should think it's another cause?

Well how about that only two days after stopping it (10th of September), i started getting random erections and morning erections? And i had much better improvement in hardness yesterday?

Now for some technicalities for people who read or are physicians themselves.

I know what you are going to say:"Minoxidil is just a vasodilator!"
Well, may i remind you that this is not exactly how they think how it's exerting its effect?

"It is not reported!"
Well, there is something called idiosyncrasy! Have you heard of it? Extremely rare, odd and unexpected side effects, that in some drugs with some cases amount to very serious complications! I may be one of those idiosyncratic people! And it SHOULD be mentioned in the pamphlet! And i don't think with this number of people complaining it should be considered rare.

"Well then how did it happen?"
I wish i could know that!
I don't know if it works centrally on the hypothalamus or the Limbic system by suppressing sexual desire in there, or locally on the Leydig cells decreasing testosterone, or as a penile venodilator causing soft erections: I really don't know! But all i can say is that i lost "interest"! Completely! It's like i became asexual!

"There are papers on Minoxidil working as a treatment for ED!"
Yes TOPICALLY not when absorbed in your bloodstream. That's why i think the problem is neuroendocrinal in origin not vascular. Just a speculation though.

And no i don't need to get myself checked, because i am COMPLETELY healthy with no other reason to cause such a problem except for Rogaine! And because i am getting better. Slowly, but getting there.

"But the FDA approved it?"
Well how many times drugs have been pulled out from the market? Countless!

I am not here to file a lawsuit or something: I am just a random guy in another continent! All i am saying is that people should consider this a side effect and don't dismiss it!

From my side, It's been a long time, I am off to minoxidil approx 8-9 months but still I don't feel the same , I used to be.. still lack of desire!
able to perform full sex session but things are not same as used to be 1 year back... and now I started doubting, whether things will be normal or not!
My T and everything is normal. Main concern is: there is no sexual urge through out d day . I'm still trying to understand, which harmone/part/level is affected due to this poison that still it's not recovered to original stage...
Please reply if anyone has nay suggestion except that-''minoxidil is not the cause'' because m 100% sure, it's d real cause...

I am one of the victim and can confirmed the issue is related to Minoxidil. I had strong sexual desire and erection in past and suddenly it dropped to 0. I was barely able to sex with weak erection. My friends and doctor told me to do exercise and concentrate on foreplay etc. But nothing worked for me.

I have stopped Minoxidil from past 3months and I have gained 100% of morning erection and sexual desire. I am very happy that i have regained all the lost but i am upset because i have started loosing more hairs.

Is there any treatment apart from Minoxidil which can halt the diffuse pattern baldness ?
My current treatment:
Pura d'or Organic hair loss shampoo - Gold label
Natrol Biotin 5000mcg
and just started with homeopathy tablets from past 2 weeks but not so much happy with the result.

Please please please suggest some treatment apart from Minoxidil. I've heard succes stories of Xeljanz but its only working for Alopcia Totalis.

@k9gatton: I can provide you complete detail. I have studied so much about hairloss while my treatment. My hairfall problem has started 3years ago when I'd full head of hair. Could be the reason of climate change or pollution etc.

Instead of giving medicine and other treatment, doctor prescribed me 5% Minoxidil topical solution and antioxidant tablets. For next 2years I never searched about what is Minoxidil and was applying lotion infrequently. I was not on a daily routine. I was loosing sometime more or less hair but had no sign of male pattern baldness. But I was keep getting comment like I have put on weight and have swelling on face. Since I was not using regularly so was having mild issue with erection.

Till last year April 2014, I had more than 100% hair. It was just full. After that I got some family issue and I was tensed and all of a sudden I started loosing lot of hair and I started developing male pattern baldness. Doctor told me you should use Minoxidil 5% twice daily otherwise you will loose hair. Then I started studying about hairloss and found Minoxidil is just a poison. I wish I would have never started using this poison. I used Minoxidl twice daily for two months but didn't got much success. Then I shaved my hair and reduced Minoxidil from 2ml daily to 1ml.

I was having 0% morning erection due to Minoxidil and after 4 months I got almost full hair back from shaved head. But due to the weird bloating face side effect and erection problem I stopped Minoxidil again. And in 1 month i started developing morning erection again. I was off from Minoxidil from Oct 2014 - Jan 2015.

But I started loosing lot of hair and then I was forced to start Minoxidil again. I used Minoxidil from Feb 2015 - April 2015. I end up with 0% erection again and doctor told me to do exercise and start taking medicine for ED.

I was 100% sure it was related to Minoxidil. And decided to stop Minoxidil.
From May 2015 - till date I am off from Minoxidil and from past 1 week I have 100% morning erection. No sign of any illness of ED. I never took any medicine for ED instead I just stopped Minoxidil.

Update on hair loss - I am still loosing hair at normal pace.

My current treatment:
1. Homeopathic treatment - Which I started a month ago
2. 5000mcg Natrol Biotin fast dissolve Tablets
3. Pura d'or organic shampoo - Gold label + Tresemme Hair spa shampoo (I use it alternatively)

I don't need to research anything about decreased libido myths and etc. Being a victim, I can confidently say that Minoxidil is directly related to loss of libido and weak erection.

Sorry to tell you. But homeopathy does nothing at all for you and is an absolute scam. Think about it, when you read exactly what it is ;)

I know what I'm talking about and I have learned hairloss thoroughly and practically. I am taking homeopathy medicine to control my sebum and itchy scalp. I have tried world class treatment and Keto 1-2% shampoo but all failed to control it. I am on week 3 and sebum is so under control. And Sebum does contribute to the DHT triggered hairloss. I have spent around 500 dollar per month in allopathic medicine from past 1 year but everything was fake. My homeopathy doctor is 85+ years of age and he charge just 1dollar a month. And he told me just follow his treatment for atleast 6month. There are plenty of homeopathy doctors like Dr. Batra etc who charge 1000 dollar a month which is a huge scam entire world. He is one of the fake doctor.

I don't want to prove anyone. I know what I am doing. And one more thing, you should not mention about finasteride. We're talking about low libido issue due to Minoxidil not related to any oral treatment. I am 1000% sure Minoxidil will lower down anyone's libido.

Hello, any success on your homeopathy? Am really beginning to think on getting an alternative to minoxidil, it's true ED or poor libido isn't in their leaflet as side effect but am a living witness to it. I just began to notice to two problems. My mind never came to minoxidil as the cause. I just thought of what could cause this and I began to search this morning and found this forum and more on same topic. No doubt it's minoxidil and it wasn't declared by them as a side effect. Any substitute with no such side effects?

I currently use minoxidil foam 5%

Thanks

This forum is insane. Hundreds of studies have been done on topical minoxidil and not one person listed ED as a side effect. There is no way it is being systemically absorbed that much to cause ED

I got partial ED from minoxidil (still on it, afraid to go off it). And of course it's absorbed, not fully but it has to be somewhat absorbed to work at all...

After sing rogaine for 3 months, it caused me zero libido (no sexual desire at all), as if i was asexual. I stopped it at 4 months. 3 months after stopping, my libido is still at 0. I can still get erections and have sex, but my erection quality is not as good and i have to really try to get aroused, and i will only get slightly aroused. My orgasm quality is very poor and barely enjoyable at times. The family doctor confirms it is possible that rogaine caused it but highly unlikely. The dermatologist has never heard of such a connection !!! I am getting my hormone levels checked today(Thyroid, Teststerone, prolactin) and i wish to be referred to an endocrinologist. What a nightmare this has been. Every day i have felt suicidal. I did this to improve my personal life and be more attractive, instead it has made me asexual !!!
