Asking for the right hair cut

Went to the hairdressers today and it didn't quite work out. I have relatively long hair (few inches, not ridiculous) and as I am thinning on top it doesn't look great without products. I use a thickening wax and some nanogen, blow dry etc. Since using Rogaine my hair is actually visibly not too bad when dry (without products on, even without nanogen). Can't really tell I am balding which I am very very happy about. However, when wet or when you run your hands through the hair it does become obvious. Considering I can't use my 'techniques' when going to get my hair cut I always end up getting it cut too short on top or some other weird haircut for balding guys. I guess they always think 'this guy is balding, he needs some help poor guy' - - they obviously don't know that using a concoction of hair waxes and nanogen can make you have a kick-*** thick head of hair if you do it right.

How do you guys tell your hairdresser to cut your hair? I don't want to say 'I actually use Toppik/Nanogen'. Lol. It's quite tricky as without nanogen I am guessing some guys look very bald! Thoughts?

Thanks for the response. :) I guess I will have to find a way to cut it so that I can still apply nanogen & gels. Thin hair looks worse long without any products in it, but looks good when I do my 'magic'. However, the hairdressers tends to try and thicken the hair by cutting in a certain way, in fact making it less easy to put a lot of Nanogen. I will just have to be as honest as I can without mentioning Nanogen - I don't think I can get past that embarrassment yet!
