I haven't posted on the site before, however I have an issue and I would be grateful for people's advice or guidance.
I have been taking finasteride for approximately 11 years with decent results and although my hair isn't perfect and thin around the temples I have managed to stop the balding process.
My wife and I are wanting to start a family and have been trying for approximately one year with no success.
I have been reading a lot of limited information on the internet suggesting that finasteride can cause infertility. I have therefore stopped taking it and i have been off it for approximately 2 months.
There has been a massive improvement with the usual associated side effects since I stopped taking it i.e morning wood, libido, erections etc, however the appearance of my hair is deteriorating and I am starting to stress about the situation.
My wife has arranged to see her GP to discuss the issue and it would be beneficial for me to take a fertility test to determine if the finasteride is causing an issue on my part.
Has anybody else been in a similar situation or are experienced with the issue and if so I would most grateful If you could advise on the following:
Is there a definite conclusion regarding finasteride and infertility or is it inconclusive as the internet suggests.
If I do need to continue being off the drug, Is there anything that I can do to limit the shedding process? I also use a LLLT device, 15% minoxidil, saw palmetto, biotin, caffeine shampoo and nizoral.
Will starting again on a reduced dose, say 0.5mg or 0.25mg be worthwhile?
The appearance of my hair is either diminishing or I am paranoid, however how long can I realistically be off the drug before my hair starts to properly return to its pre-condition.
