Hi,
well as the title of the post suggests i'm taking my first propecia pill today,(well yesterday now.. monday 28th nov) i told myself i was never gonna take it because of all the sides but cannot stand the sight of my ever increasing balding head in the mirror!

Been using minoxidil for the past 2 years and i'm sure all its done is slowly destroy my hairline, so i'm gonna take a months break from it while i start finasteride and then assess the situation from there, ( i only ever applied it once every two days when i was benefitting from it, then when i decided to get in rythm and apply it every day (for 7 months!!) it completely descimates my hairline and any areas it touched.)

Anyway i've just got myself into a gym regime and i know that increases testosterone and dht production. obviously the propecia will counteract the dht produced but will it have any effects on how my body deals with the extra increase of testosterone from hitting the gym? I've read a few reports the finasteride raises testosterone as its not being converted into dht anymore, i know more testosterone = more muscle to begin with but i wouldn't to flatline if my body decides it was making to much of it!

thanks in advance for any replies

Keep in mind Finasteride also increases estrogen by roughly 15%, as well as Testosterone by the same levels. For the majority of men, this doesn't cause any problems, but if you have borderline high estrogen levels to start with, you may run into a few issues. I personally feel the increase in Testosterone has helped my performance at the gym, but that's just my personal take on it.

Keep active at the gym, keep your body fat down, stay away from substances that may increase your estrogen (alcohol, soy), and you will be fine.

Also just as a little tip. Testosterone isn't as important for growing muscle as Human Growth Hormone (HGH) is. You can have all the testosterone in the world, but without HGH, you won't build much muscle. Doing exercises that stimulate as many large muscles as possible (Bench press, deadlifts, squats) create the most HGH, which will equal the best gains. Also make sure you don't drink heavily on gym nights, as alcohol inhibits HGH production.

Best of luck!

Deep sleep (REM sleep) is actually when your body produces the most HGH to help repair your body from the wear and tear of the day. Weight lifting is the 2nd most that HGH is released :). So, make sure you get enough sleep!

As far as the extra estrogen, Zinc, Grape Seed Extract and Broccoli are all 3 natural aromatase inhibitors. I take zinc daily, but don't overdo the zinc. It's a metal, and your body can only break down a certain amount of it a day.

I am in a similar situation as the original poster. I have been using minoxidil for a few years and while it has helped some, I don't think it will ever get me to where I want to be. I've been against taking finasteride, but that is my only option now. I'm going to see a doctor in a week.

Good point Rawtashk. I think that's actually why alcohol stops HGH production, because you don't usually hit REM sleep while drunk. Have you ever read Book of Muscle? I've read dozens of bodybuilding/weightlifting books, and that is by far the best on the subject!

Boomer01, minoxidil can only take you so far. It works well and it works quickly for most, but the benefits only last around 2-3 years tops (except for extremely good responders). You need to move on to something for the long term, and Finasteride is pretty much your only option at the moment unless you want to try experimental treatments.

I'm going to start finasteride at the beginning of next year ( I haven't ever tried it)... I'm working out at gym 3-4 times per week. I use HGH booster... I've also been thinking to start using testo booster as ADD, and some estrogen blocker with that...

Do you think would these compensate the possible sides from finasteride ? I'm going to see doctor on next week, should I test my blood before starting to use finasteride ? I was going to ask these hormonal things from him but he's a derm so I'm afraid he might not be proficient enough to answer that kind of questions.

Thanks !
