He first had alopecia areata when he was in the 5th grade. It manifested itself as several small patches on the back of his head. We were given a cream by the dermatologist and eventually hair came back in the spots---after several months. He was free from any symptoms up until about 5-6 months ago, around his 16th birthday. It started out as a couple of small patches on the back of his head. It has now grown to extremely large patches, one covers the entire right side of the back of his head.
