Aside from inhibiting DHT with treatments like Propecia and Revivogen, or stimulating growth with Minoxidil and Tricomin, the condition of your scalp is of utmost importance in seeing maximum results in your treatment regimen. The Folligen suite of products are very highly acclaimed among our users for being great scalp conditioning and regimen-supplementing hair treatment products. It also makes use of Copper Peptide technology to stimulate hair growth, like Tricomin.

 What is Folligen?

The original creator of Tricomin therapy spray, Dr. Loren Pickart, eventually branched off on his own to create a suite of skin and hair loss products. Folligen comes in three forms: A Spray, a Lotion, and a Cream. All three products work remarkably well in soothing an irritated scalp from Minoxidil use, and make use of copper peptides to stimulate hair growth.

This treatment had its beginning as a skin repair cream that was being tested in the Dermatology Department at the University of California at San Francisco. A 41-year-old woman with severe Alopecia tried the cream because nothing else had worked. In two and a half months she experienced a significant amount of hair growth. Other people began using the skin repair cream to counter balding and in time, Folligen emerged as a distinct product.

"Quantitative and ultrastructural analysis of inflammatory infiltrates in male pattern Alopecia"

Acta Derm Venereol 1999 Sep;79(5):347-50.

In order to determine whether lymphocytic inflammation around the lower infundibula in male pattern baldness is incidental or a general phenomenon, we performed morphometric and ultrastructural analysis of inflammatory infiltrates in the transitional zones of the vertex and occipital hairy scalps of 19 patients with male pattern baldness. Six normal subjects served as controls. The number of inflammatory infiltrates around the follicular infundibula of the alopecic vertices and non-alopecic occiputs of male pattern Alopecia patients was significantly greater than the corresponding control value. The number of mast cells in the widened fibrous tracts in the vertices of male pattern baldness patients was significantly greater than those in the adventitial fibrotic sheaths of control subjects and the non-alopecic occiputs of male pattern Alopecia patients.

These data support the idea that the inflammatory process may be, at least in part, responsible for the development of male pattern Alopecia

 Who is this Treatment for?

Folligen is for both men and women, and can either be used alone, or with other follicle stimulators such as Minoxidil, and DHT inhibitors like Propecia. Folligen is compatible with these products and helps reduce the scalp irritation is sometimes caused by them.

 Folligen's Method of Action

Copper Peptides work to awaken the follicles from resting phase and cause a larger number to enter into growth phase than would normally be doing so on one's scalp.

 What's in it?

Purified Water, Aloe Vera Gel, Hydrolyzed Soy Protein, Glycerin, Polysorbate-20, Allantoin, Cupric Sulfate, Diazolinydinyl Urea, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Herbal Fragrance.

 Folligen Side effects

There are no known side effects.

 How to apply Folligen

A tube of Folligen, used about 4 times per week, should last 30 to 45 days depending on the size of application area. In clinical studies, a very light coating (approximately 10 milligrams per square centimeter) was applied to the skin which is then further rubbed into the scalp.

Step 1: Use Folligen Lotion, Cream or Spray to get your scalp in good shape. Apply a thin coating of Folligen cream or lotion or Folligen Spray to the scalp. The Cream is better for the hairline and the Lotion and Spray are easier to apply into heavier hair. Folligen is usually applied before bedtime. If desired, you may shampoo the Folligen out in the morning. Then start using 2% Minoxidil along with Folligen If this is not irritating, move up to Folligen and 5% Minoxidil. Apply the Minoxidil and let it dry for about a minute, then apply the Folligen

Step 2: If your scalp becomes irritated due to using Minoxidil, or other topical treatments, stop the treatments temporarily but continue Folligen When your scalp is okay again, resume the progressive use of the topical and start again with low quantities or percentages (i.e. - Minoxidil 2%) and move up to 5%. After a number of cycles of steps 1 and 2, your skin should adjust and you should be able to use both together.

 Hints and Tips

The addition of a DHT blocker to Folligen use may help further. Propecia and Revivogen are good systemic and topical DHT Inhibitors.
