* New Women's Hair Loss Site!
Article by HairlossTalk.com
Special Event January 1, 2004

ATTENTION: ALL FEMALE USERS - WOMEN'S HAIR LOSS SUPPORT NOW HAS A HOME. The first ever consumer support website dedicated entirely to women's hair loss has been created by a rather industrious 19 year old female with Androgenetic Alopecia. Read more about it!

The First of its Kind

HerAlopecia.com hit the web in late 2003 when a girl named Laura, from San Francisco, got fed up with the lack of dedicated support for women's hair loss online. She was right. To date, there isn't a single site out there that really delves into the issue of women's alopecia... and more importantly ... that provides a true home for women seeking support and comfort from other women.

"Everywhere I went, there was information for men." said Laura. "I couldn't find anything for women except tiny little portions on the men's sites. The participation there was negligible at best, and on some sites, the site owner never updated or attended to them at all." So she did what any brilliant 19 year old who graduated high school at age 16 would do. She took the initiative to help.

Already Up and Growing

HerAlopecia.com was born, and Laura's heart for helping other women touched this site so much that we offered to help in any way we could. Not surprisingly, Laura had incredible design skills without a lick of training in Photoshop, and she built the design for her site in no time. We believed in her abilities, and our programmers offered to help put the site together and get it online. They also tied in the HLT Women's Forums to her forums as a way to help give it a "kick start" on the participation. It was very little time before we were able to separate from HerAlopecia.com entirely, and let it run on its own. The site has only been up 1 month and they're already seeing 30 new posts per day - an unprecedented level of participation for a site so new.

Help from the Experts

"The women really need a place to go, and now they have a home. Nobody was listening to them before. The guys sites are great, but all I would see is women begging for help, and getting little or no reply sometimes." Laura commented. So she has decided to change that. HerAlopecia.com already has quite a bit of content on everything from proven to alternative treatments for women's hair loss, and Dr. Marty Sawaya and Dr. Angela Christiano, two of the lead researchers in women's hair loss, have offered to review and assist with content. HairlossTalk has offered some of our "Women's Guide To Hair Loss" content for her site as well, including several recommended diagnostic tests for women with thinning hair, and important steps to take when seeing a physician.

Filling the Need

"I can't explain how much this site has helped many of us is such a short time. It is so needed! There are some support groups deep inside MSN and Yahoo, but they're so detached and temporary feeling. Laura has given us a home, and blessed everyone so much with her desire to help", said Maya, a frequent poster at HerAlopecia.com.

"Laura - I am really impressed with you and your website. You are one of the most mature and capable 19 year olds I've come across. I admit when I originally saw the link to your website, I was hesitant, because I am so use to anything associated with hairloss to be a scam. But, I made the time, and read your story and surfed your website. Women with hairloss need to thank you for taking the initiative and putting together all this information in one forum."

"Laura - I read several of your replies and I have logged onto heralopecia.com - which gave me great hope in stopping the hairloss. You see to be extremely knowledgeable on this hair loss issue. what's up? You are a very intelligent 20 year old girl. I wish that I had half the knowledge when I was 20. I am 34 now. I love your website too! I am amazed that you started it. I am registering asap! God Bless You!! Jenny"

"Thanks so much for all you do on this board!!!!! There is a special place in heaven for you!" KYGirl

"Thank you so much for creating this. It's wonderful. I'll be visiting often. Thanks again and have a good day!" Robin(blue)
