Avodart Covered by Insurance?
Article by HairlossTalk.com

At $91 a month (assuming 0.5mg daily) from some locations, Avodart can get pretty expensive. Some users have been posting that their insurance is covering it however...
Note: Avodart has not been approved for the treatment
of Male Pattern Baldness. It is a drug intended for the treatment of BPH, and
as a result, any usage of the medication for off label purposes is strictly
illegal. The following information is being posted on several web sites by their
users. HairlossTalk strongly
advises its users to continue to proceed with caution in regards to Avodart
both in the interest of remaining safe and healthy, and to wait for the clinical
data on hair loss to be released before attempting to treat your own hair loss
with it.
Users Post:
Some rather adamant users have been announcing that their insurance is covering
the medication for them, effectively dropping the cost to them by a significant
percentage. Here is one of the users experiences as posted on one of the public
forums:
Order Placed:
"I ordered from www.Medicalwellness.com for 50 dollars for a written prescription
to be sent to me by snail mail, waited about a day, and called them back to ask
if they could call in the prescription to my local pharmacy. They called it in,
and I got the confirmation by Email."
Insurance:
"Before I went to pick up my Avodart, I called the Pharmacy to see if everything
was ready. They said yes and that I needed to bring in my insurance card. I told
them I wasn't sure if it would be covered, but if not, I would just pay full price.
He paused for a second and said to give him my Insurance ID from the Insurance
Card along with my Address so he could check to see if it would be covered.
I have Blue Cross Blue Shield Insurance. A few seconds later he gets back on the
phone and says "Jason, you don't have to bring your insurance card in with
you Monday - its covered and will cost you $26.00 for 30 capsules. So I go tomorrow
afternoon to get it."
