As a result of a car accident my left arm just below the elbow was amputated on April 11th. I have been on many strong medications to fight infection, but I have been getting stronger and healthier. I started noticing about 2 weeks ago that my hair is coming out much more than normal, especially in the shower. Any opinions or thoughts if this could be related to the amputation/infection?

It sounds like you might be experiencing a telogen effluvium which can be brought on by a traumatic experience, major surgery, illness, etc. It's when a large percentage of follicles enter the resting or telogen phase and fall out within 90 days or so. The good news is that this usually resolves itself within 6-12 months. Assuming that you are not genetically pre-disposed to hair loss, your hair will probably be fine this time next year.
