Why use nizoral?

I was checking out the sticky post about opinions and came across the part where it said that nizoral is a key component?? I tried to look for a search button here but couldn't find it :s im a newb*

I have been losing hair since 18 after years of using a lot of hair product to style my hair during my teen years. now i am 22 and my hair is almost all gone.

I started using Rogaine foam, and revivogen scalp therapy with shampoo and conditioner about one week ago. after reading about using the foam in day and liquid at night to save some money, I went ahead and bought generic wal mart brand liquid minoxidil.

I need to combat my falling hair and get some of it back or keep what i have left! I am still debating over taking Fin/Propecia due to the horror stories about side effects that i have heard. apparently revivogen stuff works as a mild substitute? (I am sure its nowhere close to as good as a medicine would be with much more research done on it, but I can hope)

Right now I am using Shampoo and conditioner in the morning, after which i put the foam on before going to work. At night i first apply the revivogen scalp therapy wait for it to dry and then use minoxidil 5% on my head.

What will nizoral do for me? I might have to switch from revivogen to nizoral after what i find out.

I put off taking finasteride for years because of the side effects. Now I'm on it and I wish I started it sooner. My sex drive is actually better than before because I'm not burdened every morning with seeing less hair.

Revivogen probably doesn't work. People use Nizoral because it's cheap and there is scientific evidence suggesting that it is mildly effective. It also has no side effects for the most part.

From what I've heard revivogen is lame. People use Nizoral because of a couple reasons. First off its been proven to be a very mild anti-androgen (fights DHT at scalp level basically). Its not very powerful at all..and its not going to stop your hairloss, but it may help a little bit.

Secondly...its awesome for controlling scalp itch/dandruff. I have seborrheic dermatitis on parts of my scalp and a couple areas on my face. I use Nizoral both as a shampoo, and I also wash my face with it and it is THE ONLY product I have ever used that completely clears up and controls it. As long as I'm using Nizoral, I have 0 dermatitis. For me it makes my hair feel healthier, takes away scalp itch, controls dermatitis, and i believe puts my scalp in the best condition to facilitate regrowth and maintenance of what i already have using in combination with finasteride.

Also, as Nizoral* is so cheap, and convenient to use (we use shampoos as a matter of routine even if we aren't undergoing MPB), there's little reason not to, really.

* personally I use the Boots' own-brand imitation, as it's cheaper, smells nicer and lathers better.

In my local Boots shop Nizoral is conveniently placed just next to the hair loss stuff, which "transitions" into other shampoos, so I assume they know what a lot of people by it!

I find that even if it's not benefiting my hair growth, it certainly makes the scalp better, and this is only after using it for a couple of weeks.

I wish I had found this forum before spending $120 on revivogen, but I think Hairlosstalk has an article backing it up so I jumped in it to begin with. Said there was scientific proof behind it.

Since I have already bought it, I am thinking about just using it along with nizoral would that be ok? something like 4 days revivogen and 3 days Nizoral? Also I came across the 1% and 2% stuff, which one do you use?

I tried to look for it at Walmart here in the USA, I could not find nizoral around here. Is it UK only? or should I be hitting up walgreens ( from that it seems, boots is like walgreens) pardon my ignorance of foreign pharmacies!

And lastly, thank you everyone for replying to me so quickly. I wasnt expecting such quick responses. Clears up a lot. I will try to keep active on here as much as possible. I still have not had a doctor look at me, I need to do that still. With working fulltime second shift my schedule is not in sync with the rest of the 9-5 working world (doctors). Hopefully soon though, and i will keep eveyrone posted though!

Nizoral's activie ingredient is Ketoconazole. It's used in anti-dandruff Shampoos so if you have trouble getting hold of Nizoral, try something similar. I'm sure people here will have recommendations.

It's no just from the UK, and you can buy it on Amazon.com, too.

I use the 1% which you can buy over the counter in the USA. The only problem is, they moved their factory or something and because of this there has been a shortage on and off for like the past year. I live in LA and I was able to find some at a walmart here. If you can't find it anywhere you can order the 2% version online from inhousepharmacy.biz ..go to the hairloss section and its under there. Its completely legit. I have a bottle of it as backup in case I can't find the 1%

I am going to try another walmart tomorrow, see if I can find something. Why do people prefer 1% over 2?

Im thinking about just getting the 2% if I cannot get my hands on since I am already putting so much other crap on my head lol.

So I got my Nizoral today! I ordered from Drugstore.com and it arrived in one day?? I was definitely surprised! it cost me 32 dollars for 7oz bottles is this a good deal or are there cheaper alternatives out there?
