    Hi and help!

Hi there, I have some questions, maybe you guys can help!
I am 26 years old (27 next month) and my hair has been thinning for at least 4 years. I had thick hair all my life and having thin hair is probably the worst part of my life. I should be grateful for that, I know, but it's hard to feel that way. I have seen an endocrinologist (I have a regular one due to hyperprolactinemia which has been controlled on medication for years) and two dermatologists. My diagnosis is female pattern hair loss and I started Rogaine foam 2 weeks ago. I've definitely had a big increase in shedding since then, which is scary, but I know to be expected. The dermatologist also prescribed 100 mg of Spironolactone, but I have serious reservations about taking it. I already have low blood pressure (under 100/60) and hyperkalemia is frightening side effect and my derm mentioned that he only tested potassium levels prior to taking it, not while on it. Both the dermatologist and my endocrinologist said that I have no signs of excess androgen and my endocrinologist saw no reason why an androgen blocker would help my hair loss unless I actually had excess androgens. I tend to agree, but wondered if any of you have any knowledge of why it might work regardless. I am on birth control (mircette) and haven't actually had my androgens tested. I plan on talking to the dermatologist about this. Also, does anyone have experience with low level laser treatment? There is a guy who makes laser helmet devices (like the laser comb on steroids) similar to the ones in derm offices and I'm wondering if it's worth buying.

Thanks for any advice you can give!

Hi Alisonia! Though it has been a while since you've posted, I hope my reply could be of some help. I believe you should see also trichologist and definitely test your androgens. I am not a doctor and can not comment your medications, but as far as I know female pattern hair loss is usually connected with androgens.

    Wishing you good health!
    Veronica
