I started having thinning hair problems in my late 30's. It was gradual so for me it meant I could hide it for a while. When a few strangers spoke to me about it, it was embarrassing to say the least. I read about Diane 35 and was able to order it from New Zealand. When the US gov't shut the web site down as well as not having the results I wanted, it was time to look elsewhere! In the meantime, I used Toppik (and still do) but wanted something more permanent. I had used Rogaine, had blood work done and used the pill. Ugggh! I flew to NYC and spoke to a few doctors. One was very highly recommended. Thankfully he had a cancellation that afternoon. He has an office in Canada and in the Big Apple. I set an appointment for Aug. 04. Blood work had to be sent in weeks before and you are advised which medications/vitamins to stop taking beforehand.
You are advised to fly in the night before surgery(for obvious reasons) and wear a button down shirt. Also bring a scarf to hide the bandage.
It takes about 5 hrs. or so. I was told to let the hair grow on the sides and back. 800 hairs were expected to be used. During a break, the doctor walked in and said my scalp was loose. 400 additional hairs were able to be used. The next day I had the bandage removed and was given tablets for any swelling. For the next few days you are to soak your scalp in a tub and massage it. Quite frankly, it feels like tiny fresh grass. It takes 9 months to see the full results. I have 2 more surgeries to go. :!: This was the right step for me. This hair from the transplant won't fall out . I never thought I'd become the vitamin person and buy cute hats along the way but so be it!
