Just posting this for the info. I don't use anything like this myself.

"Triarco Industries, Inc. announces very encouraging results of a pilot clinical trial for their patented product AlphastatŪ, which inhibits 5-alpha reductase. The three-month study on male patients ages 55-68 reported a 17% decrease in Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA), and a 40% decrease in dehydrotestosterone (DHT), indicating a rise in total testosterone in these subjects.

Urogenital symptoms including increased urgency to urinate, reduced urinary stream and nocturia decreased in 80% of the patients. There were two reports of increased sexual function with one report of an increase in spontaneous erections after not having experienced erections approximately 15 years.

Negative side effects of pharmaceutical treatments for elevated PSA and DHT may include hypotension, sexual dysfunction and reduced libido. There were no reports of any negative side effects in this study and no reports of any compliance issues.

We are very pleased with the results of this clinical study because it confirms the results of the pre-clinical studies and is, to our knowledge, the first natural product shown to lower PSA and DHT levels in humans."

I just ordered this shizzle.
Ever since I dropped SP 6 months ago my hairloss has increased. It's the
only blocker I have ever used. I guess I shouldn't have
dropped it. Now I am using Nano, a multi, and Niz...we'll
see what happens now that I am adding SP again. I lost a full NW over the past year...from a 1.5 to a 2.5. I am 35 yo.

It's pretty cheap. I can sit here and watch the hairs continue to fall, or I can add something new. What the heck? I even had some of the same sides as Prop users, so there must be something to it.

I even had some of the same sides as Prop users, so there must be something to it.I remember when I used to use saw palmetto extract, it made my ejaculate watery and made me horny too. I do remember SP extract did tend to make my face less oily, so it was beneficial to acne I guess. :)

i take sp...just added saw palmetto extract in liquid form to use topically in my regimen....that way if it doesnt work on the dht in the body and only concentrates in the prostate...at least by putting it on my scalp it will do something to the dht up there as well

By the way, where do you get your saw palmetto extract in liquid form? I wonder if you could get beta -sitosterol in liquid form? :?

I did read somewhere that SP does "not" lower serum DHT in the body. :)It must work in a different fashion to help the prostate.

instead of getting those expensive bs hair loss health treatments that are most likely 99 % bogus in health food stores, get liquid sp..its meant to be added to water and drinken drank lol its been a year since im in college---but just put it on your head--they should have it at gnc---but they didnt when i went there today(the person i also had to deal with was an a.h but whatever i digress lol) so i went to this other place called vitamin world..i imagine any large health food store would have it---those bogus hair loss treatments often include sp in their shampoos or topicals but cost like 20-50 $if not more--but if you just get pure sp in liquid form(which is probably better than when its combined with other products)--in a product intended solely for help with the prostate-u could get a small bottle for like 6-12 dollars maybe more depending on the store u go to and whether or not they have a sale going on---now i say those treatments are bogus because in and of themselves they probably wont do much and are certainly not worth the money..i dunno if i mentioned before but i have little faith in sp---even though i still support using it in any hair loss prevention regimen simply as a "just in case it really does do something scenario." when i put it on today it was very greasy--i think it was in olive oil or something..so i definitely wouldnt put it on before i went out-and id definitely put it on after you were completely sure that the minoxidil on your head is absorbed(2 hours for precombined/retin-a preparations-which is what im currently using and 3 to 4 hours for generics--why would u want an unproven treatment mess with the absorption of the good stuff)--now i read somewhere on a website that it should be left on your head for an hour or 2..so im basically planning on putting it on my head every morning for an hour before i shower it off and get ready for work and then put the minox on--or putting it on when i get home from work for a couple hours, then rinse it out and put the minox on before bed-but then again i dont wanna be a slave to my hair so im not gonna worry about missing a dose or 2, and if im gona be out of the house for the evening and its inconvenient i may not bother with it at all that particular day or when you get home from work put your minox on, let it dry for 2 to 4 hours, then before bed put the liquid sp on...just make sure you dont mind grease stains on your pillow cases--that seems more doable actually--and my advice would be the same for you...nor would i put it on my head 2 times a day either-why waste so much money on a treatment thats just a what if product and so greasy-makes regular minox 5% look like water lol....im putting roughly more than 1 ml on my vertex and on my hairline..i usually put more than 1 l of minox on because i have alot of area to cover so im going to do the same for sp--...even though i dont have much faith in it, i'll bet you 20 cents lol that its roughly similar to using nizoral as an anti androgen--i mena it is known to be a dht inhibitor--in the prostate---so it would make sense that it would inhibit at least some dht on the scalp if put directly on the scalp( it cant hurt, it may help) btw---guys minox/retin-a formulas dry a hell of alot faster than that greasy generic minoxidil or rogaine--which makes it convenient to use before u go out--without looking like u dumped oil on your head--and if it wasnt for this quick drying time i may not add sp topically at all-any health food store should have it

Ya know, it makes ya think what would happen if there was an herb or something of natural source was "proven" to treat prostate enlargement and MPB. What would happen to Merck? They would go down hill. ****, that goes with any drug if there was a natural treatment "proven" to work just as good or better, without all the nasty sides. Hell, who knows, maybe some people are being paid to keep their mouths shut. Hell, another thing, how do we know that clinical studies ( not all) are really "truthful," telling lies to keep drug companies from going in debt and filling their pockets with our precious hard earned money. The thing is, is that they will probably "never" be "proven" to work. So that leaves us poor ****ers "blind" to what is "really" going on and relying on "studies" that are done by people that are keeping the drug business in good money making progress. It's like getting ****ed in the ass and well...................taking a good ass ****ing and hope something enjoyable will happen in the process. Oh well.................and life goes on. :(

But, that leaves one thing. We could "try" natural treatments at our own sake and hope something good happens in the process...............hopefully not getting ass ****ed. :)

lol i like it in the ass--but we wont go therel :freaked:  all i know is that minoxidil and retin-a work--and generic minox works too--but i think even the testing on minoxidil showing that it works is limited and discouraging to many---8 weeks let alone 4 months for just regular minox/rogaine 5% is discouraging---it took me 8 months to get to the moderate grotwh picture on thepackage--4 months isnt enough time to tell anything but they tell you stop it if you dont see any improvement-everyone is different some are quicker and others are slower starters--i do know one thing--my hair loss this year was at its worst and had i not started treatments again i woulda gone from a mild norwood 3 to a severe norwood 4---but in just 4 months of minox mixed with retin- im almost where i was when i used minox 5% generic stuff for 8 months--despite the initial setback from the severe hair loss i had this year--that stuff is some potent kickass shyat...we know sp works in the prostate on dht--if applied locally it should do something on the scalp--i mean the studies showing the role of nizoral in hair loss are quite limited--the fda doesnt even use hair loss prevention/regrowth as one of its purposes--and we use that like its god, why should we be discouraged with topical sp, which probably has more promise and is less irritating?as long as youre using proven treatments, it cant help the pnly thing is most of us are afraid to just use that, simply because there isnt enough data out there to support it, and we all want our hair

Ok.......well................how about in the ass without any lube? That change your mind? So, SP "does" work for the prostate on DHT? Have you read or seen any studies? If so, give me a link, I'd like to read it. Yes, it makes sense that if SP works on the prostate defeating DHT, then it assumeably would work for MPB as well. Topical that is.............ingesting it................don't know about that one. :)

They claim it lowers serum DHT.

ABSTRACT: BACKGROUND: Maintaining endogenous testosterone (T) levels as men age may slow the symptoms of sarcopenia, andropause and decline in physical performance. Drugs inhibiting the enzyme 5alpha-reductase (5AR) produce increased blood levels of T and decreased levels of dihydrotestosterone (DHT). However, symptoms of gynecomastia have been reported due to the aromatase (AER) enzyme converting excess T to estradiol (ES). The carotenoid astaxanthin (AX) from Haematococcus pluvialis, Saw Palmetto berry lipid extract (SPLE) from Serenoa repens and the precise combination of these dietary supplements, Alphastat(R) (Mytosterone(trade mark)), have been reported to have inhibitory effects on both 5AR and AER in-vitro. Concomitant regulation of both enzymes in-vivo would cause DHT and ES blood levels to decrease and T levels to increase. The purpose of this clinical study was to determine if patented Alphastat(R) (Mytosterone(trade mark)) could produce these effects in a dose dependent manner.

METHODS: To investigate this clinically, 42 healthy males ages 37 to 70 years were divided into two groups of twenty-one and dosed with either 800 mg/day or 2000 mg/day of Alphastat(R) (Mytosterone(trade mark)) for fourteen days. Blood samples were collected on days 0, 3, 7 and 14 and assayed for T, DHT and ES. Body weight and blood pressure data were collected prior to blood collection. One-way, repeated measures analysis of variance (ANOVA-RM) was performed at a significance level of alpha = 0.05 to determine differences from baseline within each group. Two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA-2) was performed after baseline subtraction, at a significance level of alpha = 0.05 to determine differences between dose groups. Results are expressed as means +/- SEM.

RESULTS: ANOVA-RM showed significant within group increases in serum total T and significant decreases in serum DHT from baseline in both dose groups at a significance level of alpha = 0.05. Significant decreases in serum ES are reported for the 2000 mg/day dose group and not the 800 mg/day dose group. Significant within group effects were confirmed using ANOVA-2 analyses after baseline subtraction. ANOVA-2 analyses also showed no significant difference between dose groups with regard to the increase of T or the decrease of DHT. It did show a significant dose dependant decrease in serum ES levels.

CONCLUSION: Both dose groups showed significant (p = 0.05) increases in T and decreases in DHT within three days of treatment with Alphastat(R) (Mytosterone(trade mark)). Between group statistical analysis showed no significant (p = 0.05) difference, indicating the effect was not dose dependent and that 800 mg/per day is equally effective as 2000 mg/day for increasing T and lowering DHT. Blood levels of ES however, decreased significantly (p = 0.05) in the 2000 mg/day dose group but not in the 800 mg/day dose group indicating a dose dependant decrease in E levels.
